Description
Karin stands among the protagonists as the sole female member of the Seven Samurai, assisting Fena Houtman on her quest with combat support and technical expertise. She possesses a fit, athletic build, fair skin, waist-length black hair featuring an asymmetrical fringe swept left, and brown eyes. Her initial attire included a red long-sleeved haori with a grey obi, black pants, and grey leggings wrapping her bare feet. After joining Fena's crew, she adopted a black ninja ensemble with dark-brown leather arming garments on her chest and kote-like arm guards extending to her wrists and ring fingers. Her trousers feature two holster cartridge belts for pistol ammunition, an additional ammo belt wrapped around her right leg, and leg guards. She uniquely wears black tabi footwear, distinguishing her from the boot-wearing male samurai, and forgoes a samurai helmet with facial armor. In her final design, the arming garments and arm guards shifted to fuchsia, and her ammo belts became red. Her casual wear includes a magenta haori, red pants with five buttons, and small black boots with dark magenta heels, though she sleeps barefoot. Faint pink blushes appear on her cheeks.

Her personality is assertive and intolerant of nonsense, yet she exhibits distinct enthusiasm for technology, weapons, and machinery. Loyal to her comrades and devoted to Fena's journey, she is described as spirited, formidable, and tomboyish, contrasting with Fena's demeanor. Karin displays a short temper and arrogance when annoyed but remains protective of her friends. She "geeks out" over rare items like yakusugi cedar or rhinoceros horn during market visits. Her voice actress described her as a "funny yet cool" character who interacts casually with comrades and shares a close friendship with Fena, including shared living quarters and bunk beds aboard the submarine Bonito II.

As a kunoichi, Karin demonstrates ninja skills like evading attacks and using leg wraps to subdue opponents. She is a skilled markswoman wielding dual pistols and a tanegashima musket rifle strapped to her back, also owning a submachine gun engraved with "Flower" (花), reflecting part of her name's meaning. Her technical aptitude includes inventing gadgets like a lighter and an automatic hammer. She designed the submersible pirate ship Bonito II, though her shipwright father handled construction; its drive transmission uses whale baleen with whale blubber as lubricating oil, reflecting her mechanical fascination. Her name means "Chinese quince" (花梨), with characters signifying "flower" (花) and "pear" (梨).

Raised by a family of blacksmiths, her background involves early exposure to machinery and blacksmithery.

Her involvement begins aiding Fena's escape from Shangri-La while commenting on Otto and Salman's poor navigation, witnessing Yukimaru knocking out Fena. She gives Fena a tour of Goblin Island, showing her a blacksmith workshop, though Fena's wandering annoys her. She interrupts Kaede and Enju's attempts to win Fena's affection by stomping on their heads barefoot, dubbing them "Ants #1 and #2," confirms her role in designing the Bonito II, and expresses irritation toward Salman and Otto before departure.

She explains the Bonito II's mechanics to Fena, sharing that Yukimaru previously struck her head, suggesting his protectiveness. At Bar-Baral's market, she enthusiastically examines rare items before gathering ship supplies, later witnessing Tsubaki punishing Fena and the twins. Aboard the Bonito II, she shares a cabin with Fena. She initially denies Fena's request for weapons training, emphasizing safety, but later relents; the rifle's recoil injures both, leading Karin to scold Fena. In Orléans, she supports Fena investigating the clear stone's origins and confronts Grace O'Malley's crew to secure Fena's release, demonstrating loyalty. She expresses concern for Fena and Yukimaru during their captivity on the Blue Giant and participates in their rescue.

Her relationship with Fena evolves from initial vexation during the tour to mutual respect and protectiveness, including shared quarters and training. She is loyal to Yukimaru as the group's leader. While respecting fellow samurai like Makaba for his bow-making skills, she dismissively calls twins Kaede and Enju "ants," stomping on them when they bother Fena, and shows persistent irritation toward Otto and Salman for their incompetence.
