Description
Kyle Osment is a major supporting figure in the narrative, a twenty-three-year-old swordsman who belongs to one of the continent’s most influential noble families as the heir of the Alnudas Earldom in the Farom Kingdom. From a young age he was showered with praise for his prodigious strength, magical aptitude, and physical attractiveness, which nurtured an inflated self-regard and a public persona of effortless superiority. He often refers to himself as a man beloved by heaven and presents a gallant, charming front, particularly when interacting with women, yet his smooth manners conceal a turbulent inner life defined by intense jealousy and a persistent sense of inadequacy.

Beneath the surface, Kyle is driven by a consuming desire to be the world’s foremost hero. Having once traveled as a companion of the legendary hero Sion Breydan, he grew deeply envious that the holy sword chose Sion and not him. Rather than accept his role as a celebrated ally, he became bitter about being perceived as a subordinate or sidekick, and his rivalry festered into an obsession. This envy pushed him to secretly attempt Sion’s life multiple times during their journey, all in hopes of seizing the hero’s mantle for himself, though each plot failed. After Sion’s sudden death, Kyle’s fixation shifts to the farmer Touka Scott, whose soul is now inhabiting Sion’s body. Kyle outwardly offers help while covertly scheming to eliminate Touka so he can transfer his own soul into the hero’s corpse and claim the role he has always craved.

His role in the story crystallizes during the initial demon-hunting quest when he openly challenges Touka for the right to become the new hero. After a tense standoff, his true feelings spill out: he confesses his long-held jealousy and his past assassination attempts on Sion. This confession, overheard by the necromancer Anri Haysworth and stopped by Touka’s childhood friend Yuna Eunice, marks a critical turning point. The exposure shatters his carefully maintained facade and forces him to confront the consequences of his envy in front of the very people he tried to manipulate. While his subsequent path involves coming to terms with his resentments and redefining his self-worth beyond competing with a dead rival, the experience fundamentally rattles his ego-driven identity.

Key relationships define much of his character arc. His bond with Sion was a one-sided rivalry; he respected Sion’s power but hated the hero’s success, and his admiration curdled into murderous envy. His interactions with Anri and Yuna are fraught with tension after his betrayal is revealed, as both become direct witnesses to his desperation and duplicity. With Touka, Kyle’s dynamic is initially that of a predator sizing up an impostor, but once his scheme fails, he is forced into an uneasy proximity where his pride must yield to the reality that he is not the chosen one he imagined himself to be.

Kyle’s development charts a movement from arrogance and posturing toward a more honest reckoning with his own limitations. Losing the chance to become the hero shatters the belief that his lineage and talent entitle him to greatness, and the humiliation of being caught in his plot strips away the gentlemanly mask. Over time, this shock opens the possibility for growth, pushing him to examine why he defined himself solely through comparison to Sion.

In terms of ability, Kyle is a formidable combatant who combines peak physical swordsmanship with substantial magical power. His noble upbringing afforded him elite training, and he possesses the charisma to command attention on the battlefield or in social settings. While he lacks the holy sword’s unique blessing, his raw power, tactical insight, and refined technique make him a fearsome warrior in his own right, a fact often overshadowed by his own obsession with measuring up to Sion.
