TV-Series
Description
Minoru Tatsuishi is the former head of the Tatsuishi family and the father of Kazushi and Kouji Tatsuishi. He is a middle-aged man with short gray hair, hazel or yellow eyes, and a gray beard, often depicted in traditional kimono and haori. His personality is defined by greed and cold-heartedness; he is willing to take whatever actions he believes necessary to secure the prosperity and revival of his clan, which has fallen into decline. He is quick to act rashly when angered, and his primary motivation is restoring the Tatsuishi family's status and power through any means available.
Minoru becomes an antagonist in the story because of his obsession with the Usuba bloodline, which he believes can produce powerful offspring. He attempts to arrange a marriage between Miyo Saimori and his eldest son, Kazushi, hoping to gain children with strong supernatural abilities. When Miyo is instead betrothed to Kiyoka Kudo, Minoru does not abandon his scheme. He collaborates with others who seek to remove Miyo from Kiyoka's care, plotting to have her kidnapped so he can force the marriage to Kazushi. He is skilled in using fire-based supernatural powers, but his abilities are not a match for Kiyoka's. In a direct confrontation, Kiyoka defeats Minoru with a lightning strike, and Minoru later loses his position as head of the Tatsuishi family, forced to pass the role to his son Kazushi as a consequence of his failed schemes.
Minoru's key relationships are with his two sons. He is the father of Kazushi, who succeeds him as family head, and of Kouji, who is a childhood friend and ally of Miyo. Kouji is gentle and timid, standing in contrast to his father's ruthless ambition. Minoru's relationship with these sons is predominantly shaped by his desire to use them as instruments for the family's advancement. His interaction with Kiyoka is adversarial, as Kiyoka protects Miyo and thwarts each of Minoru's plans. Minoru also deals with Shinichi Saimori, the head of the Saimori family, whom he regards with contempt for failing to recognize the potential value of Miyo's bloodline.
Over the course of the story, Minoru undergoes a decline in power and status. His initial position as the authoritative head of a notable clan is stripped away after his underhanded actions are exposed. He is forced to take responsibility for his role in Miyo's kidnapping and to step down from leadership, which represents the failure of his single-minded ambition. He shows little capacity for genuine change or redemption. After losing his position, he is removed from the main political conflicts, and his role diminishes as his son Kazushi takes over the family affairs and proves more pragmatic and capable than his father.
In terms of notable abilities, Minoru possesses pyrokinetic powers that allow him to generate and control fire, which is a common supernatural gift among the elite families in this world. He is also a capable strategist within the context of family politics, though his plans ultimately fail because of his rashness and underestimation of Kiyoka's strength and resolve. His primary strength lies not in combat but in his willingness to manipulate others and exploit opportunities to further the Tatsuishi family's interests, a trait that defines him as a selfish and calculating figure in the narrative.
