Description
Elysia de Lute Ima, nicknamed Elsie, is a 300-year-old demon from New Hell tasked with apprehending escaped spirits. Though her youthful guise mirrors a teenager, her assignment to the understaffed Runaway Spirit Squad stems from Hell’s operational crisis, requiring her to collaborate with Keima Katsuragi, a human contractor bound to aid her. To blend into the human world, she poses as Keima’s half-sister, embedding herself in his daily life.

Originally a low-ranking Hell custodian for centuries, Elsie wielded a mystical broom that doubled as a cleaning tool and a volatile weapon when improperly calibrated. Her skull-shaped pendant senses fugitive spirits by detecting emotional turmoil in potential hosts, while her hagoromo—a shape-shifting, enchanted cloak—grants invisibility, transformation, and tactical versatility during missions.

Cheerfully naïve and prone to blunders, Elsie’s earnest dedication to her duties clashes with her comical misunderstandings of human society, including bafflement toward post-1854 history and modern gadgets. Her childlike passions include an adoration for fire trucks and unwavering fandom for pop idol Kanon Nakagawa.

Initially disrupting Keima’s life by forging a sibling bond to cohabitate, Elsie’s chaotic presence—marked by disastrous cooking experiments using infernal ingredients—gradually softens into genuine camaraderie. She evolves from a nuisance to a protective ally, shielding Keima from peers and earning his begrudging familial affection.

A climactic twist exposes Elsie as a sealed cataclysmic entity once weaponized to sow destruction. New Hell dissidents attempted to awaken this latent power, but her supervisor, Dokurou Skull, thwarted their plans by exiling her to Earth. In her final arc, she renounces her apocalyptic heritage, opting to remain with Keima as his true sister, symbolizing her embrace of humanity.

Though Elsie aids spirit-capture missions by enabling Keima’s tactics, her involvement often accidentally complicates operations. Moments of unexpected prowess—such as freeing Haqua from possession or battling Vintage agents—underscore her growth, yet she retains quirks like a fear of ghosts and darkened spaces, juxtaposing her demonic nature with vulnerable charm.
