Description
Pastry Mille Morteln, commonly called Pas, is the central protagonist of the anime Sweet Reincarnation. He is a young boy with short white hair and orange eyes who lives as the heir of the impoverished Morteln frontier family. In his previous life, he was a genius pastry chef with a promising future who died in an accident during a world-class confectionery tournament before he could achieve his dream of creating the greatest dessert in the world. After reincarnating, he retains the memories, knowledge, and passion of that former life, which shapes nearly everything he does in his new one.
As the only son among six siblings, Pastry is expected to inherit the Morteln domain and become its next lord. His father, the knight Casserole Mille Morteln, is a capable but war-focused ruler who trains him in combat, strategy, and the duties of lordship, while his mother, Agnes Mille Morteln, gives him steady emotional support and manages the household. The family's territory is poor, lacking money, good farmland, clean water, safe roads, and even basic ingredients such as sugar, which makes Pastry's ambitions especially difficult to achieve.
In terms of personality, Pastry is determined, energetic, and highly creative. He carries himself with the maturity of someone much older because of his past-life experiences, yet he also shows genuine childlike excitement whenever sweets are involved. He is pragmatic and resourceful, and he willingly uses his confections to build connections, attract powerful people, and smooth over political negotiations. His enduring wish is to make sweets that bring joy to everyone and to create a land of sweets, a place where fine pastries are available to ordinary people rather than only to the privileged few.
Pastry's role in the story follows this dual path. On one side, he devotes himself to learning magic and combat so he can help protect his home from bandits, monsters, and political conflicts. On the other, he applies the advanced confectionery techniques of his previous life to experiment with local ingredients, gradually introducing new recipes, methods, and ideas that benefit the Morteln domain economically and socially. His creations frequently win over allies, impress nobles, and open doors that would otherwise be closed to a poor frontier family.
His relationships are shaped by this balance of duty and dream. His father acts as a demanding but devoted teacher who comes to respect Pastry's unusual talents, his mother provides warmth and encouragement, and his sisters form the close-knit family around him. Over the course of the story, Pastry also builds bonds with retainers and companions who are drawn to his sincerity and skill, and he learns to rely on others rather than pursuing everything on his own.
Through these experiences, Pastry develops from a boy with a seemingly impossible wish into a capable leader who gradually finds ways to merge his personal dream with the responsibilities of his position. He becomes more adept at magic and combat, more confident in his role as the future lord, and more effective at using sweets not only as a passion but also as a tool for diplomacy, trade, and the improvement of his homeland. His most notable abilities remain the complete professional pastry-making knowledge from his past life, combined with the magical powers and fighting skills he cultivates in his new world, all of which he channels toward his goal of creating a land where sweets can be enjoyed by all.
