Description
Daigo Otaki, a 17-year-old orphan, was raised by his uncle Gen in Carpe Village after his father Kyotaro Otaki's death. Initially unaware of his family legacy or his sister Saori, he journeys to Victor City upon reaching adulthood. This settlement, designed by his scientist father, is managed by Saori. She reveals his inheritance: the Gordian robotic defense system, exclusively pilotable by Daigo due to DNA encoding, a fact demonstrated when Saori's activation attempt nearly proves fatal.
Joining the Mechacon Corps' 18th Regiment, a law enforcement unit defending Victor City against the Madokter Army, Daigo initially conceals his identity as Gordian's pilot. His personality is impulsive, hot-blooded, and rebellious, leading him to frequently disobey orders and clash with authority figures like his commanding officer Barry Hawk. He harbors resentment toward his deceased father for abandonment and struggles to accept Saori. Despite his aloofness, he possesses a strong moral compass, consistently risking his life to protect others. His exceptional combat skills include 100% accurate marksmanship.
Accompanied by Clint, his self-aware mechanical leopard and lifelong companion, Daigo operates the Gordian system. This system comprises three nested exoskeletons: the human-sized Protteser (using football-like projectiles), the intermediate Delinger (wielding a sword), and the largest Garbin. Combined, they form Gordian at full power. Daigo typically pilots Protteser first, upgrading to larger units as threats escalate. The robots can also function independently using the "Glacial Crash" team attack. His piloting skills evolve throughout the conflict, unlocking new abilities like the Bomb Drill and Magnum Punch around episode 21.
His character develops through the war. After Victor City falls to the Madokter Army, he becomes more compassionate and forgiving, evolving from a lone outsider into a symbol of hope for refugees at Fort Santore. He gradually reconciles with his family legacy, learning his father uploaded his consciousness to a computer and discovering his mother, presumed dead, is Queen Naomi. His relationship with teammate Peachy deepens, though he remains oblivious to her romantic feelings despite repeatedly rescuing her. By the series' conclusion, he leads humanity's defense with greater maturity and responsibility.
