Description
Orphaned young after scientist father Kyōtarō Otaki's death, Daigo Ōtaki was raised by his uncle Gen in Carpe Village, unaware of his heritage. His childhood companion was Clint, a mechanical leopard serving as both protector and loyal friend. Traveling to Victor City as an adolescent, he discovered the settlement was designed by his father and secretly managed by his sister Saori. She revealed his inheritance: the Gordian robotic defense system. Encoded exclusively to his DNA, unauthorized piloting attempts caused severe injury.
Initially impulsive and rebellious, Daigo frequently clashed with authority figures like Captain Barry Hawk within the Mechacon mechanical combat unit, disregarding tactical orders and discipline. His early relationship with Saori was strained, marked by reluctance to accept her as family and resentment toward his father’s choices, including uploading his consciousness into Victor City’s systems posthumously. Despite his aloof demeanor, he demonstrated innate combat proficiency, particularly exceptional accuracy with firearms.
Defending Victor City and later Fort Santore against the Madokter Army catalyzed significant change. Witnessing civilian suffering and ally sacrifices shifted his self-serving tendencies toward deeper responsibility and compassion. This evolution transformed him from a mistrusted outsider into a symbol of hope for survivors, earning increased trust from Mechacon leadership. Unspoken romantic tension existed with teammate Peachy; while she harbored clear feelings, he remained largely oblivious to her affections despite frequently prioritizing her safety.
Daigo piloted the Gordian system through sequential combination: beginning in the agile, human-sized Protteser, progressing to the sword-wielding Delinger for enhanced strength, and culminating in the largest unit, Garbin. Full integration unlocked Gordian’s maximum potential. His role expanded during humanity’s evacuation from Earth aboard the ark Anno, helping overcome threats like the returning Socones comet and hostile alien forces. He ultimately departed Earth with the survivors, committed to ensuring humanity's future in a new world.
