Description
Marie is a mermaid-type Xenos first encountered by Bell Cranel on the twenty-fifth floor of the Dungeon. She has emerald blue hair, jade colored eyes, fins in place of ears, faint indigo-blue skin on her upper body, and a fin matching her hair color. Her personality is innocent and childlike; though she can speak, her communication skills are limited, giving an impression of immaturity. She cares deeply for her fellow Xenos and shows kindness to those who help them, having no hesitation in using her own blood to heal others. Because she lacks any fighting ability, she is wary of stronger monsters and becomes terrified when they appear, yet she is skilled at evading both monsters and adventurers when necessary.
Her role in the story begins when Bell, separated from his party after a battle with a Moss Huge, tumbles into the Water City labyrinth and meets her. Initially distrustful, she warms to him after he defeats a flock of Iguazu. She agrees to guide him back to his friends, charming weaker monsters along the way to help navigate the dungeon. After Bell promises to protect her and succeeds in slaying the Moss Huge that frightened her, she develops romantic feelings for him. Later, when the Juggernaut attacks, she initially flees into the water but overcomes her fear and searches for Bell. Finding him gravely injured, she uses her own knife to cut herself so that he can absorb more of her healing blood, saving his life.
As a Xenos, Marie possesses greater intelligence and power than ordinary monsters. Her primary abilities include a hypnotic charm that can enchant adventurers through song and can also affect monsters weaker than herself. She has superb mobility in water, moving so fast that no aquatic monster can catch her, and she outpaces even a newly leveled-up Level 4 Bell. Her blood, known as Mermaid Fresh Blood, has extraordinary healing properties: anyone who drinks it instantly regains all stamina and recovers from wounds, even reattaching severed limbs. Despite her lack of combat prowess, these abilities make her a vital healer and guide during the expedition into the Dungeon's deep floors.
