Description
Heinrich Berger is an elderly figure who initially presents himself as a refined and knowledgeable art dealer. Physically, he is depicted as a senior man with gray hair cut to ear length and blue eyes, often seen wearing glasses, a tie, and a suit, complemented by a beard. This distinguished appearance helps him cultivate an air of trustworthiness and sophistication.

At the start of the story, Berger approaches the Kisugi sisters, the trio of thieves known as Cat's Eye, by claiming to have known their missing father, the artist Michael Heinz. He offers his assistance in their quest to find a series of three paintings, presenting himself as an ally against the renowned thief Arsène Lupin III, whom he describes as untrustworthy. However, this genteel persona is a complete fabrication.

As the narrative progresses, Berger reveals his true nature as a ruthless and manipulative criminal mastermind. Far from being a simple art dealer, he is the real leader of a powerful criminal organization that has been pursuing the paintings for their own nefarious purposes. His motivation is not to help the sisters find their father, but to acquire the secret gems hidden within the triptych of paintings. He orchestrates the final confrontation, intending to use these gems in a mysterious ceremony, and is even revealed to have a hidden connection to Dennis Kirchmann's father, which ultimately leads to his downfall.

Within the story, Berger serves as the true antagonist and secret benefactor, using the Cat's Eye sisters as unwitting pawns to achieve his own goals. His key relationships are defined by deception. He maintains a false alliance with Hitomi, Rui, and Ai Kisugi until his betrayal is exposed. He is also the superior of Dennis Kirchmann, though this relationship is fraught with hidden animosity due to Berger's past actions against Kirchmann's family. His primary role is to act as the ultimate obstacle, forcing the crossover between Lupin's crew and the Cat's Eye sisters.

Despite his advanced age, Berger demonstrates notable abilities. He is a skilled planner and manipulator, capable of deceiving everyone around him for a significant portion of the story. He is also portrayed as being ruthless and dangerous, as he personally shoots Lupin during the climactic confrontation. However, his plan ultimately unravels when his former subordinate, Dennis Kirchmann, kills him in retaliation for his past crimes.
