Lin emerges mute and traumatized after witnessing bandits murder her family in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Kenshiro restores her speech using Hokuto Shinken pressure points and rescues her from Zeed, leading her to become his loyal companion alongside Bat. She demonstrates notable compassion and bravery during their travels, maintaining unwavering faith in Kenshiro's mission to protect the innocent.
Following a timeskip after Raoh's death, Lin co-founds and leads the Hokuto Army with Bat, fighting against the oppressive Imperial Army (Celestial Empire) during Kenshiro's absence. Her role evolves into that of a resistance leader dedicated to liberation. During this conflict, Lin discovers she is the younger twin sister of Lui, the Celestial Empress. As an infant, she was ordered executed by Viceroy Jakoh due to succession laws prohibiting twin heirs, but Falco spared her life, placing her with his relatives for safekeeping.
After Jakoh's regime falls, his son Jask (Tiger in the anime) kidnaps Lin, taking her to the Land of Shura. Kenshiro pursues her rescue, confronting the rulers of Shura who practice Hokuto Ryūken. There, Kaioh subjects Lin to the Shikanhaku pressure point, erasing her memories and causing blindness—a technique designed to make the victim fall in love with the first person seen upon awakening. Hyoh rescues her from Shura warriors at the cost of his strength, and Bat arrives to extricate them. Bat later suggests Kenshiro reunite with the amnesiac Lin, but Kenshiro declines, believing her destiny lies with Bat.
In the series' conclusion, Bat uses limited Hokuto Shinken techniques to erase Lin's memories again so she can start anew with Kenshiro. After both regain their memories during a confrontation with Bolge—and Bat suffers mortal injuries—Lin initially honors Bat's dying wish to be with Kenshiro but changes her mind and returns to Bat. Kenshiro's intervention spares Bat's life, allowing Lin to choose him as her partner.
In non-canonical media like the 1986 movie, Lin's early story remains consistent with her introduction and involvement in Kenshiro's journey until the Cassandra arc. Video game depictions, such as her adult portrayal in *Hokuto no Ken 2* (Famicom), align with her leadership role in the Hokuto Army during the Imperial Capital conflict.
