TV-Series
Description
Anubis, whose real name is Sirius, serves as the chancellor of Ozmargo and is the most trusted advisor to the King of Beasts, Leonhart. He is a beast with a jackal-like appearance, characterized by his dark bluish-black fur, thin neon yellow eyes, and a white silk mask that covers his muzzle. His typical attire consists of lush white and dark blue robes with yellow details, complemented by a key hoop on his left hip, a gold neck collar, and four gold ring piercings on his left ear.
Anubis has a personality that is often described as harsh, cynical, and cold. He is deeply loyal to Leonhart and takes his duties as chancellor with the utmost seriousness, proudly referring to himself as the king's brain. This loyalty is coupled with a strong sense of duty to the kingdom, which he believes must be protected at all costs. This leads him to be highly prejudiced against humans and initially deeply opposed to Leonhart's decision to take a human sacrifice, Sariphi, as his bride and future queen. His dislike for Sariphi is not merely personal; he views her presence as a threat to the stability of the throne and the traditional order of the beast realm. He can be duplicitous in his pursuit of these goals, even willing to take actions that go against Leonhart's direct wishes, including secretly conspiring with former senators to impose difficult trials on Sariphi in an attempt to make her fail.
His primary motivation throughout the story is to safeguard King Leonhart and the kingdom of Ozmargo. This drive stems from a deep-seated personal history. In his childhood, Anubis experienced a lack of affection from his own father, who seemed to care more about his duty than his son, leaving Anubis with a profound inferiority complex. His friendship with Leonhart, who showed him genuine kindness and care without regard for his role as an advisor, filled this emotional void and cemented his absolute devotion. Consequently, any person or thing he perceives as a risk to Leonhart, such as Sariphi, becomes a target for his animosity.
As the chancellor, Anubis plays a central role in the court as Leonhart's right hand, managing many of the king's affairs. He acts as a primary antagonist to Sariphi in the early parts of the story, using his authority and influence to create obstacles for her, such as insisting she must pass a trial by summoning a Holy Beast. His position also puts him into conflict with other characters, such as Nir, a servant of the rebel Fenrir, who even offers Anubis a chance to join their side.
His most significant relationship is undoubtedly with King Leonhart. They have been close friends since childhood, and Anubis's loyalty to him is the cornerstone of his entire being. His second key relationship is with Sariphi, which evolves over time. Initially, he is her most vocal detractor and treats her rudely. However, Sariphi's consistent kindness, her unwavering compassion, and her deep understanding of Anubis's bond with the king slowly begin to change his perspective. Her empathy for his concern for Leonhart marks a turning point, allowing him to finally recognize her as a proper candidate for queen rather than simply a human sacrifice.
Anubis undergoes a significant character arc. He begins as a rigid traditionalist and a racist who is vehemently against any change to the established order, particularly the idea of a human queen. His experiences, particularly his forced proximity to Sariphi and witnessing her genuine nature, force him to confront his prejudices. While his first reaction to progressive ideas, such as abolishing the sacrifice system, is to scream in horror, he shows a capacity to stop, think, and eventually recognize the logic in Leonhart and Sariphi's point of view. He begins to learn and evolve, moving from an active opponent of the queen to a grudging, and later genuine, supporter of her place beside the king. At one point, after a major conflict, his sense of shame drives him to want to resign his position, only for Leonhart to comfort him and reaffirm their bond.
Regarding notable abilities, Anubis is a capable fighter, engaging in combat with skilled opponents like Nir. However, his most prominent abilities are not physical. His primary strength lies in his sharp intellect, political acumen, and his deep knowledge of the kingdom's laws and traditions. He is a skilled strategist and manipulator, able to devise complex trials and political schemes to achieve his goals, fulfilling his role as the true brain behind the throne.
