Description
Thirteen-year-old Meirin Kanzaki possesses Feng Shui divination abilities manifesting shortly after she learns to speak. Operating an online fortune-telling service under the pseudonym "Dr. Rin," she gains significant popularity, unwittingly drawing customers from her father's Feng Shui business and forcing her to conceal this secret identity at home. Her powers allow her to predict futures, offer luck-based advice, and perceive occult phenomena. She carries a protective hakke crystal that automatically summons the dragon god Shenlong when she faces danger; she later learns to consciously activate this power. These abilities stem from a past incarnation as the Priestess of Light (Haoyung Laila), explaining her exceptional affinity for Feng Shui.
Her family includes her father Shou, a less skilled Feng Shui practitioner resentful of Dr. Rin's success; her mother Emika, a former professional wrestler; and her older brother Koumi, who assists with her website. Koumi harbors resentment over his name, derived from the kanji for "dumplings." Later revelations expose Koumi as an impostor who manipulated the family's memories to insert himself into their lives. He allies with the Dark Witch to steal Meirin's powers, culminating in a confrontation where Meirin protects his accomplice Azusa, catalyzing Koumi's redemption. He ultimately departs with the Dark Witch.
At school, Meirin obsessively pursues her childhood friend and soccer teammate Asuka Yuuki. His skepticism about the occult leads him to reject her Feng Shui advice. Their relationship begins when a soccer ball he kicks strikes her as a child, sparking her devotion. She frequently employs her powers to aid him, such as insisting he wear pink underwear for luck despite his embarrassment. Her romantic life complicates when transfer student Takashi Tokiwa, an onmyōji and reincarnation of Byakko, initially manipulates supernatural forces to eliminate Asuka and win her affection. After an evil entity controlling Tokiwa is exorcised, he becomes her ally and friend.
Her supernatural journey intensifies as she discovers Tokiwa, Banri Shijo, and Eddy Tsukioka are reincarnations of three celestial guardians (Byakko, Genbu, and Suzaku), while Asuka is the fourth (Seiryuu). Their role is to protect her as the Priestess of Light's reincarnation. Asuka's delayed awakening allows the Dark Witch to corrupt him, leading him to renounce his feelings for Meirin and ally with evil. She recovers eight crystals tied to the guardians' powers, though the Dark Witch steals several, weakening her. A climactic battle occurs at a dark tower constructed by the overarching "Dark Force" (later revealed as Kyoumi). Here, Meirin's sister awakens as the Light Witch's aide, healing the group and uniting with the redeemed Dark Witch to defeat Kyoumi.
In the aftermath, Meirin and Asuka reunite in a desert dimension, triggering visions of their past lives. They learn Asuka's sealed memories and powers resulted from a forbidden romance with the Priestess of Light; his subconscious love for Meirin maintained the seal. Their reconciliation restores balance and dissolves the tower. The series concludes ambiguously, with Asuka suggesting their supernatural experiences may not have been a dream.
Throughout her trials, Meirin is accompanied by her pet monkey Tenshin, who cannot speak but communicates through gestures and occasionally falls under supernatural influence.
