Description
Kouya Marino, younger brother of the late legendary Gear Fighter and Asia Cup champion Yuhya Marino, inherits his brother's Crush Gear Garuda Eagle and responsibility for Yuhya's mementos after a fatal accident four years prior. He joins the near-defunct Tobita Club, once led by Yuhya, now depleted as most members defect to the rival Manganji Club under Yuhya's former teammate Takeshi Manganji.

Initially inexperienced in Crush Gear mechanics and tactics, Kouya relies on allies for strategy and maintenance but shows unyielding resolve to rebuild the Tobita Club and pursue his World Cup dream. His early rooftop duel at the Manganji building sparks a fierce rivalry with Takeshi.

Kouya balances cheerfulness with emotional vulnerability, singing on flights and weeping openly after defeats or traumas like Garuda Eagle's destruction or revelations about Yuhya's death. His impulsiveness leads him into high-stakes battles without assessing opponents, and he occasionally displays arrogance after mastering techniques. Yet he consistently prioritizes others' welfare, easing the Tobita manager's stress with decoy prizes or refusing to destroy opponents' Gears during illegal Gear Pancratum tournaments, deliberately violating event rules.

Key milestones define his growth: overusing the "Shining Sword Breaker" shatters Garuda Eagle during the Buthokan Cup, leading him to pilot the VT Gear Battlehawk before receiving Garuda Phoenix—a new Gear fused with Garuda Eagle's remnants. This Gear evolves during pivotal matches like the Asia Cup finals against Takeshi and World Cup semifinals against U-YA, a fighter resembling Yuhya. Under mentorship from the "Gear God," Kouya learns to synchronize emotions with his Gear.

His selflessness extends beyond competition, intervening to prevent unnecessary Gear destruction—halting Kyousuke's assault on Dino Spartan or stopping the Gear Emperor from crushing Caesarvern. He bakes bean buns for teammates using skills inherited from his mother. Kouya's journey culminates at the World Cup championship in Manganji Hills, where he overcomes Gaiki's "King of the Dragon Fighters" to defeat Takeshi, fulfilling his ambition while honoring Yuhya's legacy.
