Description
Douglas, a wealthy American businessman and political figure, campaigns for the U.S. presidency in the 2000 election. His daughter, Julia, is kidnapped by the Nostradamus Sect, a cult intent on seizing a hidden book of prophecies stored within the vault of Douglas’ skyscraper, the Earth Building. Despite the abduction, Douglas delays meeting the kidnappers’ demands to withdraw from the race, calculating that public sympathy from the crisis could strengthen his political bid.

The Earth Building, under Douglas’ ownership, boasts advanced security systems guarding Nostradamus’ prophecies. The vault requires biometric authentication from Douglas’ immediate family—a vulnerability exploited by adversaries. During the climactic confrontation, as explosives trigger the skyscraper’s collapse, Douglas orchestrates an evacuation, distributing parachutes to survivors.

His wife, Mary, surfaces briefly in discussions about Julia’s kidnapping but remains tangential to the central conflict. Douglas’ campaign-driven decisions, favoring strategic gains over personal risks, underscore his pragmatic, calculating nature. The vault’s familial biometric safeguards and the cult’s manipulation of these protocols drive the narrative tension, culminating in the building’s destruction and his contested choices under duress.
