Description
Ami Mizuno is a highly intelligent Japanese teenager who lives with her mother, Saeko Mizuno, a busy physician, following her parents' divorce. Her father, an artist, maintains only limited contact, sending occasional postcards or birthday cards. Rumored to have an IQ of 300, Ami consistently ranks at the top of national exams and dreams of becoming a doctor like her mother, excelling particularly in mathematics and science. Her natural shyness and intense focus on studies were often mistaken for aloofness by classmates, leading to social isolation before she befriended Usagi Tsukino.

Ami is gentle, kind, and initially insecure, but her friendships with Usagi and the other Sailor Guardians gradually foster greater self-confidence and assertiveness. She remains the team’s most level-headed member, frequently serving as their strategist with a calm demeanor and analytical approach. She dislikes unnecessary conflict, has a strong moral compass, and vehemently opposes harming innocents. Despite her studious and reserved nature, she secretly enjoys romance novels and pop culture, though she is often embarrassed to admit it. Her hobbies include swimming, chess, reading, and video games. She has an unusual physical reaction, breaking out in a rash upon receiving love letters. Her loyalty to her friends is unwavering, and she is willing to sacrifice her own safety for them.

As Sailor Mercury, the Guardian of Water and Intelligence, her powers are primarily water-based, including hydrokinesis and cryokinesis. She can generate obscuring mist or fog with techniques like Shabon Spray, and employs a magitek visor summoned via her earrings to scan enemies for weaknesses. Her offensive abilities evolve from Shine Aqua Illusion, a water-based blast capable of freezing targets, to more advanced attacks such as Mercury Aqua Mirage, which engulfs enemies in freezing water. After obtaining the Mercury Crystal in the Dream arc, she gains the ultimate power Mercury Aqua Rhapsody, summoning a harp to channel potent water-based energy blasts. Her transformations progress from "Mercury Power, Make Up!" to "Mercury Star Power," "Mercury Planet Power," and finally "Mercury Crystal Power, Make Up!" for her Super and Eternal forms. Eternal Sailor Mercury features a redesigned uniform with a star-shaped brooch, V-shaped choker, translucent sleeves, elongated gloves, layered skirt, and knee-high white boots.

In the Silver Millennium, she is revealed as Princess Mercury, residing in Mariner Castle and tasked with protecting Princess Serenity. Her journey includes periods of vulnerability such as brainwashing by the Dark Kingdom, captivity under the Black Moon Clan, and the temporary theft of her Sailor Crystal. In the final battle against Sailor Galaxia, she is killed by Sailor Aluminum Seiren, who steals her Sailor Crystal and discards it into the Galaxy Cauldron, but she is ultimately restored to life. In future timelines, she becomes a physician in Crystal Tokyo. Beyond battle, she has a fleeting bond with a psychic classmate named Ryo Urawa and a mentorship under Mamoru Chiba. In a live-action adaptation, a brainwashed "Dark Mercury" arc is resolved through camaraderie. Her legacy spans lifetimes, intertwining duty, intellect, and the enduring strength of friendship.
