Description
Andrew Rhodes serves as the older brother to the protagonist Jackie Rhodes in the anime adaptation. Residing in 1960s Kenya with his British family, his father works as a wildlife protection officer. Initially aspiring to follow his father into wildlife conservation, Andrew's career path shifts to veterinary medicine after an encounter with Hanna Kaufmann, a veterinarian who inspires him. His deep care for animals is evident through his ownership of a pet chameleon named Ben; ultimately, he releases Ben into the wild, reflecting his family's commitment to animal welfare.

Andrew's personality contrasts sharply with his sister Jackie's tomboyish bravery. He is characterized as easily frightened, prone to anxious reactions, and explicitly described as a "Fragile Flower" who "screams like a little girl" in intense situations, establishing a dynamic where Jackie embodies toughness and Andrew caution. His background includes educational pressures from his mother, Penny Rhodes, who intends for him to attend a prestigious school in England near her parents.

Alongside his mother, Andrew is identified as a "Canon Foreigner," created specifically for the anime and absent from William Stevenson's original novel. He remains an integral part of the Rhodes family's identity as animal lovers and conservation advocates, actively opposing poaching and participating in efforts to protect African wildlife.
