Description
"The Bush Baby" is a 1992 anime series based on the novel "The Bush Baby" by William Stevenson. Set in the 1960s, the story centers on Jackie Rhodes, a young British girl living in Kenya with her parents. When her father, a game warden, is transferred to England, Jackie's family must leave their home. However, Jackie is determined to stay in Kenya, a place she deeply loves. Her attachment to the land and its wildlife becomes a central theme as she navigates the challenges of her changing circumstances.

Jackie's life takes a dramatic turn when she rescues a bush baby, a small, nocturnal primate, from poachers. She names the animal Murphy and forms a strong bond with it. The bush baby becomes a symbol of Jackie's connection to Kenya and her desire to protect its natural beauty. As political tensions rise in the region, Jackie's family faces increasing pressure to leave. Her father's work as a game warden puts him at odds with poachers and corrupt officials, adding to the family's struggles.

Throughout the series, Jackie's determination to protect Murphy and her love for Kenya drive the narrative. She faces numerous obstacles, including the threat of poachers, the challenges of adapting to a new life, and the emotional toll of leaving her home. The story explores themes of environmental conservation, cultural identity, and the resilience of the human spirit. Jackie's journey is marked by her unwavering commitment to her values and her bond with the natural world.

The series also highlights the relationships between Jackie and those around her, including her parents, who support her despite their own difficulties, and local friends who share her love for Kenya. The depiction of the African landscape and wildlife is integral to the story, emphasizing the importance of preserving nature in the face of human exploitation. "The Bush Baby" is a heartfelt tale of adventure, family, and the enduring connection between humans and the environment.
