Description
Daemon Abashiri is the patriarch of the notorious Abashiri family, a clan of criminals featured in the anime "Abashiri Ikka The Movie." As the head of the family, he is the father of four children, each born from a different mother. Despite being depicted as an old and remarkably small man, often with a bald head and sporting long eyebrows and a mustache, he is unequivocally the most powerful member of the Abashiri clan.

Daemon typically does not draw attention to his immense strength, often appearing unassuming because of his diminutive stature and advanced age. However, his gentle and reserved exterior gives way to staggering displays of power when his family is threatened. His true, unrestrained strength is a force reserved almost exclusively for moments when his children are in grave danger, showcasing that his primary motivation is the protection of his lineage.

In terms of personality, Daemon takes his role as the leader of the family seriously, demonstrating a firm and serious attitude toward its business and the welfare of its members. While he is capable of orchestrating elaborate criminal schemes, he embodies a contradiction often found in his clan: despite their reputation for destruction, they lack grand aspirations, and their plans can sometimes be undermined by their own chaotic nature.

His role in the story is that of a patriarch and a hidden guardian. As the leader, he directs the family’s actions, but much of his narrative significance stems from his relationship with his only daughter, Kikunosuke, whom he raised as a son. In the film and the original OVA series, he supports her transition to a normal life by sending her to Paradise School. When the school proves to be a nest of sadistic and violent teachers, Daemon takes direct action, personally confronting the lethal threats to extract his daughter.

His key relationships are primarily with his four children: Goemon, Naojiro, Kichiza, and Kikunosuke. Each child inherits specific talents and appearances from their respective mothers, but they all look to Daemon as their leader and ultimate protector. He also appears in other works by creator Go Nagai, where his character is recontextualized; for instance, in "Mazinger Angels," he is depicted as an innkeeper who maintains a serious commitment to his family business, refusing to sell even in hopeless times, while still retaining a somewhat lecherous side, such as collecting bikinis.

Across various iterations, that development remains consistent: Daemon Abashiri is a man whose primary function is to transition from a comically unassuming figure to an unstoppable force when his family legacy is at stake. The live-action film places him in a scenario where his criminal instincts are suppressed by a microchip, testing his resilience while he navigates captivity and rallies his kin against external foes. His notable abilities include superhuman strength and fighting prowess that defy his physical appearance, allowing him to easily overpower and throw opponents much larger than himself. He is also a capable leader and strategist, though his plans are often overshadowed by the sheer physical threat he poses when his wrath is finally ignited.
