Description
Crosshairs is an Autobot introduced in the 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction. He is a paratrooper known for his sharpshooting skills, and his alternate mode is a green and black 2014 C-7 Chevrolet Corvette, the body panels of which form a distinctive trench coat-like structure in his robot mode.
As a personality, Crosshairs is characterized by a sharp, sarcastic demeanor and a pronounced self-interest. He is often described as self-loving and a bit of a jerk, possessing a snarky attitude that frequently manifests as complaints and cynical remarks. While he is a capable and loyal soldier in battle, his disposition is notably more pragmatic and less idealistic than some of his fellow Autobots, often prioritizing his own well-being and questioning orders before following them. He has little respect for authority, at times expressing frustration with Optimus Prime's leadership and even harboring a desire to be in charge himself.
Crosshairs' primary motivation is survival. Having witnessed the human-led organization Cemetery Wind hunt down and kill many of his kind, he is deeply suspicious of humans and reluctant to put himself at risk for them. This self-preservation instinct often clashes with the Autobot cause, making him hesitant to join dangerous missions unless he sees a clear personal benefit. Despite this cynical exterior, he ultimately does come through for his team in critical moments, revealing that his loyalty, while grudging, is still present.
In the story, Crosshairs is first seen in hiding with fellow Autobot survivors Bumblebee, Hound, and Drift. When Optimus Prime returns with the human Cade Yeager and his companions, Crosshairs is initially hostile towards the humans, ready to eliminate them before being stopped. He takes part in the assault on the KSI facility in Chicago, enraged by the discovery of their fallen comrade Ratchet being melted down. Later, during the mission to rescue Optimus from the bounty hunter Lockdown's ship, Crosshairs initially refuses to help, asking what is in it for him. After being persuaded by Hound, he joins the infiltration, commandeers an enemy Orbital Assault Carrier, and provides crucial fire support. In the film's final battle, he is notably fearful of the massive Dinobot Grimlock but rides another Dinobot, Scorn, into combat, developing an unexpected camaraderie with him and nicknaming him Spike.
Crosshairs has several key relationships within the Autobot team. He shares a particularly gruff dynamic with Hound, whose brute force approach contrasts with Crosshairs' more calculated nature, though Hound is able to convince him to join the rescue mission through aggressive negotiation. He also interacts with the samurai-like Drift, but his strongest connection forms with Scorn, one of the Dinobots. After the battle, Crosshairs expresses a genuine fondness for his temporary mount, a rare moment of warmth that cuts through his usual sarcasm.
His notable abilities are centered on his role as a paratrooper and marksman. He is an exceptionally accurate shot, capable of hitting targets with precision from a distance. He can deploy from the air using his trench coat as a parachute, allowing him to enter battlefields from unexpected angles and catch enemies by surprise. He wields Sidearm Blasters and is known for his quick draw, making him a lethal opponent who can eliminate threats before they can react.
