Description
Nobuo Akagi is a twenty-nine-year-old man who works as a deliveryman at Sasaki Pom Poko Delivery in Akihabara. He still lives with his mother and is an ardent fan of the Super Sentai franchise, as well as the in-universe anime Nijiyome Academy Z-Cune Aoi. His deep knowledge of tokusatsu heroes and tropes is matched only by his tendency to daydream about being a hero himself. This habit of slipping into elaborate fantasies shapes much of his daily life and eventually becomes the foundation of his role as a fighter.
When recruited by the scientist Hiroyo Hakase to join the Akibarangers, Akagi becomes the team's leader under the alias Akiba Red. His transformation and combat abilities are powered by the MMZ-01 Moe Moe Z-Cune, a figurine-like device that channels Delusion Power—the imagination-based energy that allows the Akibarangers to manifest their heroic forms. As Akiba Red, Akagi uses his encyclopedic knowledge of Super Sentai to devise strategies, sometimes imitating specific poses or techniques from past series during roll calls and battles. His delusional power is noted as the strongest among the three original members, enabling feats that blur the line between fantasy and reality.
In the second season, Akagi manifests a new device, the MMZ-02 Munyu Munyu Zubaaan, which can transform into a knife. This grants him the ability to become Super Akiba Red, an armored form with increased attack power. He can combine the two MMZ devices into a bayonet-like cannon for powerful finishers. Later, after being enlarged during a fight with the monster Prism Ace, he attains the golden Super Akiba Red Super form, capable of a giant-sized slash attack.
