Description
Monika is a supporting character in The Great Cleric who works as a receptionist, first at the Merratoni branch of the Healers' Guild and later at the Merratoni Adventurers' Guild. She is a young woman with chestnut-colored hair, often described as beautiful, and she is known for her diligent and kind-hearted nature. Having grown disillusioned with the widespread greed and corruption among healers who demand exorbitant treatment fees, Monika is initially distrustful of the profession as a whole. However, she becomes an early and steadfast supporter of Luciel, the protagonist, because of his earnest and fair approach to healing. She admires his hard work and moral integrity, often expressing concern when he pushes himself to the point of exhaustion during his extreme training. Her role in the story is largely administrative and emotional: she handles Luciel's guild paperwork, rank advancements, and earnings, and she provides a warm, domestic presence that contrasts with the violence of his combat training. Monika is close friends with Nanaella, another guild receptionist, and the two frequently discuss Luciel's unusual behaviors and growing reputation. Over time, Monika develops romantic feelings for Luciel, though the relationship remains gentle and largely unspoken. She is portrayed as smart, confident, and athletic, with a calm and gentle demeanor that belies a mature and hard-working personality. Later in the series, she takes on a more active role, eventually becoming the captain of the Church's new female paladin regiment, which showcases her hidden strength and leadership abilities. Her character arc centers on her growth from a disillusioned guild employee into a protective and capable figure who actively supports Luciel's mission to reform the healers' guild and provide affordable care to those in need.
