OVA
Description
Hazuki Yasuo, known by the nickname Hose, is a character from the anime Ore wo Suki na no wa Omae dake ka yo, specifically appearing as a secondary cast member in both the television series and its concluding original video animation, Oretachi no Game Set. He is a second-year student at Toshobu High School and serves as a direct rival to the protagonist, Amatsuyu Kisaragi, who is called Joro. Physically, Yasuo bears a strong resemblance to Joro, sharing similar facial features, dark hair, and blue eyes, though he is slightly taller, has shinier hair, and possesses a deeper voice. His nickname, Hose, is an alternate pronunciation of his given name, Yasuo, which symbolically establishes him as a superior counterpart to Joro, as a hose is considered functionally superior to a watering can, the meaning of Joro.
The core of Yasuo's character lies in his dual nature, representing a carefully constructed public persona and a hidden true self. In public, he presents the facade of an exceptionally kind and perfect individual, often described as the embodiment of an ideal romantic comedy protagonist. This "nice guy" image is characterized by flawless manners and a blinding smile, which is so convincing that it deceives nearly everyone, including the perceptive heroine Sumireko Sanshokuin, known as Pansy. Underneath this polished surface, however, Yasuo is manipulative, cunning, and deeply possessive. His true self is revealed to be a schemer who disregards the feelings of others and views Pansy as his property. While he maintains his facade expertly, this darker personality surfaces when he is provoked or his plans are challenged.
Yasuo's primary motivation is his obsessive fixation on Pansy. His history with her dates back to middle school, where he intervened to remove malicious individuals from her life. Following this, he pressured her into a romantic relationship, an advance she rejected. Despite the rejection, Yasuo publicly defended her decision to protect his own image. His role in the story is that of a rival and obstacle for Joro, driving the final conflict in the series' OVA, which focuses on the rivalry between the two characters. He attempts to undermine Joro by exploiting his "nice guy" image to manipulate social dynamics and isolate Pansy, a scheme that ultimately leads to his exposure and downfall when his true nature is revealed by Pansy herself. His key relationships include his childhood friend Tsukimi and his admirer Momo Sakurabara, called Cherry, both of whom are initially unaware of his duplicity, though their connections to him become strained after his true character is exposed. No notable abilities beyond his masterful maintenance of a kind facade and his skillful use of disguises to alter his appearance and behavior are documented.
