TV Special
Description
Caster, a Servant summoned in the False Holy Grail War of Snowfield, is a middle-aged man with a tall and sturdy build, standing at 182 centimeters. His true name is Alexandre Dumas père, the renowned French author of classics such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. Rather than a magus, Caster is a writer-type Servant, a creator of heroes and stories rather than a hero himself. He is not a fighter by nature; his physical parameters are low for a Servant, with a particular weakness in agility, though his magical energy is ranked at EX, reflecting his unique creative power.
Caster presents a frivolous, self-congratulatory, and hedonistic personality. He openly proclaims that his fabricated stories are more entertaining than reality and that his only needs are good food and beautiful women. He frequently addresses his Master, the Snowfield police chief Orlando Reeve, as brother and often behaves in a lighthearted manner that can exasperate those around him. Despite this flippant exterior, he is not a malicious individual. Beneath his casual demeanor, he possesses a fundamentally ethical and calm nature. He has expressed regret for figures driven solely by revenge and faithfully executes the tasks given to him by his Master, even if he grumbles while doing so.
Caster’s motivations in the Holy Grail War are distinct from most other Servants. He has no personal wish for the Holy Grail itself. His primary interest lies in observing the flow of the war itself—how the events unfold and how the conflict concludes. He prefers the role of an outsider or spectator, watching the narrative of the battle from beginning to end without seeking to become its protagonist or director. This detached, observational goal is reflected in his unique skill, Era Observation, which allows him to perceive the currents of an age and weave them into his literary works.
His most significant role in the story is that of a supporter and arms manufacturer, not a frontline combatant. He forges powerful alliances through his Master, Orlando Reeve, and the police organization Clan Calatin. Caster provides them with enhanced weaponry to fight in the war. His key relationships are primarily utilitarian, centered on equipping his allies. His bond with his Master is professional, with Orlando using methods like wiretapping to monitor Caster, while Caster himself completes requested tasks without serious complaint.
Caster’s development is not defined by a dramatic arc of change but by the revelation of his hidden depths. While he initially seems like a simple-minded glutton and lecher, he proves to be a shrewd and competent Servant who has a significant impact on the war by empowering ordinary humans. His conversations reveal a more serious thinker who respects genuine heroism, even if he does not embody it himself.
Caster’s abilities are rooted in his literary genius, specifically his power to rewrite and refine. His primary Noble Phantasm is Musketeers Masquerade, a support-type ability that overwrites a target's life with Dumas's own experiences or creations. This process can strengthen a single individual several times over, effectively writing a narrative of empowerment onto them. However, this enhancement usually only works on humans and can only be used a limited number of times per summoning.
His other Noble Phantasm, Grand Dictionnaire de Cuisine, is a powerful anti-object ability derived from his posthumous culinary encyclopedia and his time as a museum director. This Noble Phantasm transforms his class skill Item Creation into a modified version, allowing him to create anecdotes for existing items. Through this process, he can raise the rank of ordinary tools and transform them into pseudo-Noble Phantasms. With this ability, he can create replicas that are sometimes more powerful than the original legendary weapons, though he cannot alter relics that are already of the highest rank, as their stories are considered complete.
