Description
Aoshima is a supporting character in Heavenly Delusion whose role bridges the isolated world of Takahara Academy and the post-apocalyptic society that emerges after the Great Disaster. Initially introduced as a nurse at the academy, her position within the institution's hierarchy deepens as the story progresses, revealing her to be a figure of hidden importance and moral complexity.

Within the walls of Takahara Academy, Aoshima serves as a member of the medical team, where she is portrayed as a caring and skilled nurse who seems to genuinely look after the children in her charge. Her competence in this role leads to a surprising promotion when the academy's director appoints her as the new assistant director, a move that grants her level 4 security powers and authority over other staff members, including the more senior Dr. Sawatari. This appointment, which occurs around the time of the bombing of the academy's walls, appears to be a reward for her dedication but carries a far darker underlying purpose. The director, whose health is failing, views the younger Aoshima not just as a capable colleague but as a potential vessel for a future brain transplant, a scheme designed to extend the director's own life until the body of a child named Tokio becomes suitable for the procedure.

Despite this sinister plan being made without her consent, Aoshima remains a figure who seems largely unaware of the full scope of the conspiracies at the academy's heart. Her primary focus remains on the well-being of the students, and she is shown taking decisive action to rescue four children who venture outside the facility after the walls are breached, bringing them to safety. Her working relationship with Dr. Sawatari is particularly significant, as the two eventually find themselves united in their concern over the director's increasingly erratic and immoral plans, with some sources indicating they conspire together to deal with the threat the director poses.

Aoshima's background adds another layer to her character, as she is not merely an employee but deeply connected to the academy's founding. Her real name is Mitsuki Imanaga, and her mother, Misaki Imanaga, was a primary benefactor and financial backer when Takahara Academy was established in 1995. This connection may explain her rapid rise through the ranks, though her own skills as a medical professional are never in doubt.

After the cataclysmic event known as the Great Disaster, which destroys the old world and scatters the inhabitants of Takahara Academy, Aoshima survives and finds a new role in the emerging order. Years later, she becomes a leader within the Ministry of Reconstruction, a powerful organization working to restore civilization. In this capacity, she is responsible for directing operations against the monstrous Hiruko that now roam the land, including a significant confrontation with a powerful creature named Anjulas. She also serves as a crucial source of information for the protagonists, Maru and Kiruko, providing them with valuable knowledge about Maru's parents and the true, tragic ambitions that drove the creation of the supposed heaven on earth at Takahara Academy. Her evolution from a compassionate but institutionally-bound nurse into a key player in the post-disaster world marks her as a character of significant development, whose story is intertwined with the series' deepest mysteries.
