Description
Archer Hawkins is a supporting character in the Inazuma Eleven series, known for his role as a defender for the national team Inazuma Japan. His original Japanese name is Tobitaka Seiya.
Before discovering football, Archer Hawkins was the leader of a street gang in Inazuma Town, notorious for his powerful kicks which he used in fights, earning him a reputation as a fearsome delinquent. During a confrontation where he was outnumbered and about to be severely beaten, he was rescued by Seymour Hillman. Hillman, an experienced coach, saw the potential in Archer's powerful legs and offered him a chance to channel his abilities into playing football, a sport Archer had never played before. Accepting this offer, Archer promised to leave his life of fighting behind.
Initially, Archer presents the demeanor of a quiet, sarcastic, and somewhat insolent rebel, a personality not unlike some of his new teammates. However, this tough exterior gradually gives way to reveal a person with a big heart. He becomes deeply loyal and caring, especially towards his mentor, Seymour Hillman. Archer is also a very persistent and determined individual, driven by a desire to prove himself and to use his unique skills for a constructive purpose rather than destruction. A notable, almost compulsive habit of his is frequently combing his hair, particularly after making a mistake or during awkward moments.
Archer's journey begins when he is scouted by Seymour Hillman to try out for the newly formed Inazuma Japan. Despite his lack of fundamental football skills and experience, he earns a place on the team during a selection match. His raw talent manifests as an incredible ability to use the air pressure from his powerful kicks to negate the force of opposing shots. This technique becomes his signature move. Throughout the Football Frontier International tournament, Archer struggles to master his abilities but shows remarkable growth. His primary motivation is to live up to the faith that Hillman placed in him. This becomes even more poignant when Hillman falls ill and requires surgery; Archer stays by his side at the hospital and dedicates his performance in the following matches to his mentor.
Archer forms significant relationships with several key characters. His bond with Seymour Hillman is the most crucial, as Hillman is not only his coach but the person who gave him a second chance. He also develops a strong friendship with Mark Evans, the team's captain and goalkeeper, whose unwavering optimism and support help Archer gain confidence. Furthermore, Archer becomes a role model to younger players like Austin Hobbes, showing a more nurturing and guiding side of his personality. Years later, in the Inazuma Eleven GO series, it is shown that Archer has inherited Hillman's legacy by becoming the head chef of his ramen restaurant, RaiRaiKen, demonstrating his deep respect and how he was influenced by his mentor beyond just football.
On the field, Archer is a defender, though he has also played as a midfielder. His most notable ability is Shinkuuma, a hissatsu technique where he creates a vacuum by kicking the air, which drains all power and spin from an incoming ball, allowing his goalkeeper to catch it easily. He develops this technique into more powerful versions, Shinkuuma 2 and Shinkuuma 3. Other hissatsu techniques he uses include Hawk Shot and Breakthrough. In the film Inazuma Eleven: Saikyō Gundan Ogre Shūrai, he temporarily joins the Raimon team to fight against the Ogre, where he is shown capable of stopping powerful shots like Death Spear.
