Description
Damon is the primary antagonist of the fourteenth Pokémon film, appearing as a central character in the narrative. He is a descendant of the People of the Vale, the inhabitants of a once-prosperous kingdom that fell into ruin a thousand years ago following a civil war between two princes. This war involved the legendary dragons Reshiram and Zekrom and caused the land's natural energy, the Dragon Force, to spiral out of control. To contain the disaster, the king used the power of the Mythical Pokémon Victini to lift the kingdom's castle, known as the Sword of the Vale, to its current location. However, this act inadvertently trapped Victini within a protective barrier, preventing it from ever leaving the castle's vicinity.

Motivated by a deep-seated desire to restore his ancestors' lost home, Damon is a well-intentioned but misguided extremist. His goal is to use the power of a legendary dragon and capture Victini to harness its limitless energy. He plans to use this combined force to move the Sword of the Vale back to its original location, believing any sacrifice is worth reviving his people's kingdom. His motivation was seeded in childhood when he visited the ruins of the old kingdom with his mother, Juanita, who expressed a wish to see the land repopulated and restored. Taking this dream to heart, Damon spent three years traveling to other communities of the People of the Vale to garner support, only to be rejected. This rejection hardened his resolve.

His personality is defined by single-minded determination and a tragic flaw of arrogance. He is not a purely evil character but rather an antagonist who is convinced of the righteousness of his cause. He is willing to cause immense harm, including trapping and exploiting the gentle Victini and endangering the entire town of Eindoak, in pursuit of his goal. He believes that the ends justify the means, making him blind to the immediate suffering his actions cause. This creates a central conflict with the film's protagonist, Ash Ketchum, who champions compassion and doing what is right in the present moment. Depending on the version of the film, Damon's own perception of his quest aligns with the nature of the legendary dragon he commands. In the film White - Victini and Zekrom, he is partnered with Zekrom, the dragon that represents ideals, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his vision for the future.

Damon's role in the story is that of the primary instigator, whose actions drive the plot toward its climax. He successfully activates the ancient Pillars of Protection to contract the barrier, forcing Victini into the castle and trapping it in a machine to drain its power. With his legendary dragon, either Zekrom, he begins to lift the castle into the air, which unwittingly unleashes the unstable Dragon Force, threatening to destroy the surrounding land. He serves as a foil to Ash, demonstrating how a noble ideal, when pursued without empathy, can lead to catastrophic consequences.

His key relationships are central to his character arc. He is the son of Juanita, a respected elder of the People of the Vale, and the brother of Carlita. While he believes he is fulfilling his mother's dream, Juanita is horrified when she witnesses the cruel methods he employs. Her direct opposition and reprimand are crucial moments that force Damon to confront the error of his ways. He also has a loyal following of allies among the People of the Vale, including a man named Mannes. His partnership with a legendary dragon is one of mutual recognition, as the dragon sees the depth of his resolve regarding either his ideals or his truth. In this version of the film, his faithful companion Pokémon is a Reuniclus, which he uses in battle and to restrain his opponents.

Damon undergoes a significant development over the course of the film. Initially presented as a confident and unstoppable force, his conviction is first shaken by the opposition of his own family. The pivotal turning point occurs when his dragon, seeing the widespread destruction of the Dragon Force caused by their plan, turns against him and destroys the machine trapping Victini. Overwhelmed with remorse and desperation, Damon realizes the catastrophic consequences of his actions. He then shifts from antagonist to an ally, attempting to help Ash and repair the damage. At the climax, after Ash's Zekrom helps save Victini and break the ancient barrier for good, a devastated Damon collapses with guilt. However, his mother Juanita approaches him and, rather than condemning him, tells him that they have a lot of work to do, implying forgiveness and the start of a new, constructive path. He is last seen shaking Ash's hand and joining his family and community in the more humble, restorative work of rebuilding their home in the castle's new location.

In terms of notable abilities, Damon is a skilled Pokémon trainer and strategist. His primary strength lies not in direct combat but in his knowledge of ancient technology and the legends of the People of the Vale. He is able to activate and control the ancient mechanisms of the Sword of the Vale, including the Pillars of Protection. He successfully commands a legendary dragon, Zekrom in this film, demonstrating a powerful will that the dragon itself respects. His other Pokémon include a Reuniclus, which serves as his partner in battle and uses its psychic powers to restrain others, and a Sigilyph, which he uses to manipulate the protective pillars around the castle.
