Description
Ai Kaminari, affectionately known as Ai-chan, is the female half of the heroic Yatterman duo, operating under the alias Yatterman Number 2. As the only daughter of an electrical appliance shop owner named Gorozou, her background is steeped in technology and mechanics, which proves essential to her role as a crime-fighter. Her full name poetically translates to "love thunder," a fitting description that connects her romantic nature with her signature electrical abilities and heart-themed costume motifs. Typically depicted as a twelve-year-old with short blonde hair and blue eyes, her civilian attire consists of a yellow jumpsuit worn over a purple leotard, complemented by a red cap. When transforming into Yatterman-2, she reverses this outfit, revealing a white or light pink jumpsuit adorned with heart designs, which she pairs with a purple domino mask, red gloves, and a red cap bearing the Yatterman insignia.

In terms of personality, Ai Kaminari is defined by a blend of courage, loyalty, and a mischievous streak. She is a devoted partner to Gan Takada, Yatterman Number 1, often taking on the role of his steadfast supporter while also being the more responsible and proactive member of the team. In the 2008 remake of the series, this dynamic is particularly pronounced, as she frequently has to urge the initially lackadaisical Gan into action, quantifying their perilous situations with recurring phrases like "100% trouble". Despite her generally caring and noble heart, which compels her to protect the innocent and even offer redemption to reformed villains, she displays zero tolerance for the Doronbo Gang. Her ire is especially reserved for the gang's leader, Doronjo, when she flirts with Gan, revealing a jealous and competitive side to her otherwise compassionate nature. She is sensitive to personal remarks yet proves to be an active and formidable fighter who can single-handedly defeat adversaries with little effort.

Her primary motivation is to thwart the evil Doronbo Gang and their master, Dokurobei, in their quest to gather the fragments of the mysterious Skull Stone. Alongside Gan, she co-founds the Yatterman team and utilizes her mechanical expertise to construct and modify their robotic allies, including the mechanical dog Yatter-Wan and the pelican-shaped mecha Yatter-Pelican. Her role in the story is that of a proactive heroine who directly engages in combat and mecha battles, striving to prevent the Doronbo Gang from causing trouble and obtaining the Skull Stone fragments. Her key relationship is undoubtedly with Gan Takada, who is both her crime-fighting partner and her boyfriend. Their partnership is a classic battle couple dynamic, with their relationship evolving over the course of the franchise. Roughly thirteen years after the original series, in the Time Bokan: Royal Revival OVA, Ai and Gan have married and are seen enjoying their honeymoon, although they quickly spring back into action when the Doronbo Gang resurfaces.

The character's development spans multiple series and timelines. In the 2008 remake, her arc involves pushing Gan to grow into a more capable hero, with his maturity increasing as the series progresses. In the later sequel series Yatterman Night, set generations into the future, it is revealed that Ai and Gan were eventually killed by Dokurobei after he returned for revenge. Following their deaths, a tyrannical regime called the Yatter Kingdom uses robotic clones of Ai to manipulate public perception and defile the Yatterman name. However, her heroic legacy endures, as a young girl named Alouette is inspired to adopt the Yatterman-2 mantle and fight against Dokurobei's oppressive rule.

Regarding her notable abilities, Ai Kaminari is a highly skilled mechanic and electronics prodigy, possessing technical expertise equal to Gan's in constructing and modifying machinery. In combat as Yatterman-2, her primary weapon is the Shibire Stick, also known as the Electric Stick or Paralyzing Stick. This retractable, telescoping baton allows her to emit electric currents that shock and paralyze foes, deflect projectiles, and block enemy weapons. Her fighting style is characterized by lightning-quick, high-speed assaults. In various video game appearances, such as Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, she is depicted as a character with low health but formidable speed and rushdown capabilities, utilizing special moves that summon her robotic companion Omotchama and deploy the Yatter-Pelican mecha to release a small army of mini-robots on her opponents.
