Fragments of a mysterious stone known as the Skull Stone are scattered across the globe. It is said that once all four pieces are assembled, the location of the worlds largest deposit of gold will be revealed. The villainous Doronbo gang, consisting of the glamorous but luckless leader Doronjo, the mechanical genius Boyacky, and the strongman Tonzler, relentlessly search for these fragments under the orders of their unseen master, Dokurobei. Standing in their way are the young heroes Gan and Ai, who transform into the masked champions Yatterman-1 and Yatterman-2. With the help of a large, transforming robotic dog named Yatterwan and a small cube-shaped robot named Omotchama, the duo battles the Doronbo gang's outlandish giant robot mecha in each episode. The series follows a highly formulaic structure: the Doronbo gang runs an elaborate scam to raise funds for their scheme of the week, builds a new mecha to fight the Yattermen, suffers a spectacular defeat resulting in a skull-shaped explosion, and is subsequently punished by Dokurobei via an electric shock through a communication device.

In 2022, a live-action television drama titled Doronjo premiered on the Japanese network Wowow. Rather than adapting the original series plot, this drama serves as a grounded prequel focusing on the origins of the iconic villain. The story follows Dorokawa Nao, a young and talented up-and-coming boxer who will eventually become Doronjo. The narrative explores her life in the world of competitive boxing, including her intense rivalry and complex relationship with another female boxer named Hijirakawa Aika. The series reimagines the colorful, comedic villain as a serious character, stripping away the science fiction and superhero elements of the original franchise. The setting is a realistic, contemporary Japan centered around the boxing gyms and training facilities where Nao hones her craft. The tone is markedly dramatic and somber, focusing on themes of ambition, rivalry, and the backstory that leads a promising athlete down a darker path. The drama stars Elaiza Ikeda in the lead role and represents a significant departure from the source material, offering a character study rather than an action-comedy.
