Description
Miss Doronio, whose full name is Hiroko Sasagawa and who is more commonly known simply as Doronjo, is a central character from the anime Yatterman. She is the glamorous and masked leader of the Doronbo gang, a trio of bumbling thieves. In the original 1977 series, she presents herself as a 24-year-old criminal, and her primary goal is to gather the fragments of the Dokuro Stone for her mysterious employer, Dokurobei. The promise of a vast fortune and the chance to become the richest and most admired woman in the world are her stated motivations, though deeper hints suggest a longing for a simpler life of settling down and raising a family.

Personality-wise, Miss Doronio is characterized by a blend of vanity, selfishness, and impatience, traits she shares with her predecessor from earlier Time Bokan series. However, she is notably more benevolent towards her inept henchmen, Boyacky and Tonzura, often praising their successes while swiftly scolding their frequent blunders, particularly those of Boyacky. She is portrayed as fairly intelligent and a smooth talker, talents she uses to devise the gang's elaborate scams and schemes to acquire the Dokuro Stone fragments. Despite her cunning, she is also quite reckless. A distinct personal quirk is her intense fear of rats, stemming from a childhood incident where a rat bit her nose, which makes her especially vulnerable when the Yatterman deploy rat-like mini-mechas.

As the leader of the Doronbo gang, Miss Doronio occupies the central seat in their various themed mecha and oversees their operations. However, she rarely engages in direct physical combat, preferring to direct her henchmen and pilot the vehicle. Her role is primarily that of a comedic antagonist, whose plans consistently fail against the heroes Yatterman-1 and Yatterman-2. Her key relationships include her loyal but clumsy subordinates, her shadowy boss Dokurobei, and her primary rivals, the Yatterman. Over the course of the series, she develops unrequited romantic feelings for Yatterman-1, which adds a layer of complexity to her character and leads to moments of introspection about her life of crime.

Miss Doronio undergoes significant development, particularly toward the end of the series. She begins to have second thoughts about her career as a thief and, after the true nature of the Dokuro Stone is revealed and the gang is left with nothing, she tearfully disbands the Doronbo gang. In a later epilogue, it is revealed that she went on to marry and become the mother of five children, also running a bar decorated with mementos from her adventures. Despite this, her longing for the excitement of her past eventually leads her to reunite with Boyacky and Tonzura for further escapades in later OVAs and series. Her notable abilities include her intelligence and leadership in orchestrating schemes, her persuasive and manipulative speech, and her capability to pilot the gang's enormous mecha. She also appears as a playable character in fighting games such as Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, where she is shown to be a capable direct fighter, though visibly exhausted by the effort.
