Description
Boyacky is a member of the Doronbo Gang, serving as the trio's technology expert, mechanical designer, and strategist. He is a tall, slim man with prominent buck teeth and a mustache, typically dressed in a green uniform that leaves his midsection exposed.
Before his life of crime, Boyacky aspired to become a soba noodle chef in the city of Koriyama. His girlfriend at the time, Ohana, even gave him a special rolling pin to support his dream. However, his culinary skills were inadequate, and he could only find work as a dishwasher. This failure and his resulting financial hardship drove him to a life of crime, leading to his recruitment into the Doronbo Gang. Out of shame for the path he had taken, he cut off contact with Ohana.
Personality-wise, Boyacky is a complex figure who combines intellectual brilliance with lecherous tendencies. He is the brains of the gang and often displays a snarky, talkative nature. His most defining and recurring motivation is an obsessive desire to be admired by high school girls across the country. This fixation fuels many of his fantasies, including using the gang's sought-after treasure, the Skull Stone, to afford plastic surgery to make himself more attractive. He also frequently makes unwanted advances toward his leader, Doronjo. Despite these flaws, he harbors a genuine desire for a consensual, mutual relationship.
In the story, Boyacky is responsible for designing and building the giant mechas that the Doronbo Gang uses in their missions to find fragments of the Skull Stone. He creates machines based on various concepts, often from recycled parts. While these mechas are powerful and can initially overwhelm the Yatterman's robots, they inevitably possess a critical design flaw, such as a glaring weakness or an easily triggered self-destruct button, which leads to the gang's defeat. His role also extends to being the mastermind behind the gang's get-rich-quick schemes and cons, and he wields a versatile weapon called the Tokkae Gun, which can fire lasers, glue projectiles, and other gadgets.
Key relationships define his place in the series. He serves under the beautiful but short-tempered leader Doronjo, to whom he is often attracted. He works alongside Tonzura, a former wrestler who serves as the gang's muscle and comic relief. The trio reports to their skeletal boss, Dokurobei, who punishes them for their repeated failures. Boyacky also has a lingering emotional tie to his former sweetheart, Ohana.
Boyacky's character shows notable development over the course of various series. After the original Yatterman story concludes, the Doronbo Gang disbands, and Boyacky returns to a normal life. He reconciles with Ohana, marries her, and successfully opens his own soba noodle shop. In the later OVA, Time Bokan: Royal Revival, set fourteen years later, he initially resists rejoining Doronjo and Tonzura for a race against other villain trios, content with his peaceful life. However, he ultimately comes to his former colleagues' aid when they are in danger, demonstrating that his loyalty to them endures. The 2008 remake of Yatterman revisits his role and backstory, reiterating his failed past as a chef and his continued technical genius, while often amplifying his comedic traits. Ultimately, Boyacky's legacy extends far into the future, as his descendant, Voltkatze, inherits his alias to fight against an oppressive regime in Yatterman Night.
