Description
Rika Suzuki hails from Kobe, where her family runs a factory. She endured the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake, losing friends and classmates. This trauma fueled her decision to suppress her Kansai accent after relocating to Tokyo, actively erasing her dialect to dodge pity or intrusive questions about her past. Her grandmother arranged a marriage to a businessman’s son to aid the family factory, prompting Rika’s Tokyo move near graduation.
In Tokyo, Rika works alongside Emi Yusa as a Docodemo call center agent. She bonds deeply with Emi, who never probes her background despite overhearing her Kansai accent during a call with her grandfather. Emi’s unassuming acceptance makes her Rika’s first true Tokyo friend. Kind and attentive, Rika often invites Emi to meals and worries for her safety, like after an unseen attack. Yet she exhibits persistent curiosity and naïveté, misreading Emi’s relationship with Sadao Maou and irritating Emi by orchestrating meetings to investigate him.
Rika develops romantic feelings for Shirō Ashiya, intrigued by his housekeeping role and reassuring him of its worth. She blushes radiantly when he thanks her for validating his domestic tendencies. Ashiya remains oblivious initially but later hints at reciprocation, hesitating because she knows only his human identity. Rika confesses in Volume 13 and faces rejection, yet by Volume 16 she reconsiders his response as non-definitive and resolves to pursue him again.
Her role shifts from bystander to partial awareness of supernatural events around her friends. Though largely excluded from truths about Ente Isla or demon origins, she observes oddities. Gabriel’s attack on Villa Rosa Sasazuka in Volume 8 sees Ashiya and Nord Justina kidnapped, while Amane Ōguro rescues Rika. Emi’s accidental "Idea Link" contact during the crisis further exposes Rika to hidden conflicts. Proximity and curiosity pull her deeper into the unfolding narrative, though she remains Emi’s primary human-world confidante.
