Ako Izumi is student number five in Mahora Academy’s Class 3-A. She has light blue hair and reddish or amber eyes, stands 148 centimeters tall, and was born on November 21. Shy yet athletic, she serves as the manager for the boys’ middle school soccer club, assists the school nurse despite an intense fear of blood, and plays bass guitar for the band Dekopin Rocket. A large scar on her back, which she goes to great lengths to hide, fuels a deep lack of self-confidence and a belief that she is a background character rather than someone special. Initially showing little interest in her ten-year-old teacher Negi Springfield, she develops a strong crush on his older, teenage form after he takes age-deceiving pills and introduces himself as his cousin Nagi. During the Mahora Festival, Negi (as Nagi) takes her on a date to help her relax before a concert; they enter the Mahora Best Couple Contest and win second place. He encourages her to think of herself as the main character in her own life, which begins to build her confidence. She tries to confess her feelings twice but loses her nerve, finally asking only for his email address. Later, during a journey to the Magic World, she falls seriously ill, forcing her friends to sell themselves into slavery to afford her medicine. After being rescued, she learns the truth about Negi’s dual identity and protects his secret by offering her own freedom to shield him from blackmail. She becomes the second girl to confess directly to Negi and insists on forming a magical Pactio contract with his true ten-year-old form rather than his disguise. Her Pactio artifact, Cultrix Cum Traumate, manifests as a large syringe called the Mysterious Syringe, which can inject a target to boost their abilities or administer a poison that reverses their senses and direction. Through her experiences, her scar is eventually healed by magic. After graduating high school, she studies healing in the Magic World, returns as a first-grade healing practitioner, works as a nurse alongside her close friend Akira Ookouchi, and continues her studies in secret under Konoka Konoe as her mentor.
