Description
Lucy Pace is a teenage girl living with her parents, Owen and Shannon, in a rural homestead outside the walled city where the Church holds power. She is portrayed as a semi-rebellious young woman who craves freedom from the monotony of her farm life and often argues with her parents. Her defiant nature tends to attract dangerous situations, but she is also a quick thinker and skilled at deception. At the outset of the story, Lucy is kidnapped by a group of vampires led by a figure known as Black Hat, who uses her as bait to lure her biological father, a former Warrior Priest, into a trap. Although she believes Owen is her father, she later discovers that the Priest is actually her true father, while Owen is his brother who raised her in his absence. This revelation reshapes her understanding of her family and her own identity. Throughout her captivity, Lucy shows a strong will to survive, using her wits and emotional resilience to cope with the terror of being held by vampires. She is rescued by the Priest, her father, along with her boyfriend Hicks and a former Warrior Priestess. In the final confrontation, Lucy witnesses the battle between her father and Black Hat and ultimately escapes the derailed train carrying the vampire army. Her presence serves as the emotional catalyst that forces the Priest to break his vows and return to action. Lucy does not possess supernatural abilities; her strength lies in her resourcefulness and her capacity to endure fear and uncertainty. She represents the innocent life that the Church’s war has disrupted, and her kidnapping sets in motion the quest that drives the story’s central conflict. Over the course of the ordeal, she matures from a restless teenager into someone who must confront the harsh realities of the world beyond her farm.
