Description
Rin Kagawa is a first-year high school student who shared middle school with Ayumu Tanaka, Takeru Kakuryu, and Sakurako Mikage. She trained alongside Ayumu and Takeru in their middle school kendo club, deeply admiring Ayumu’s unbeatable skill. Unable to land a single hit on him, she resolved to confess her feelings if she ever defeated him. This competitive drive persisted into high school, though her attention turned to shogi after discovering Ayumu’s involvement in that club.

Initially planning to join kendo, Rin met Urushi Yaotome during club recruitment. Upon learning Ayumu and Takeru had chosen shogi instead, she challenged Ayumu to a kendo match: his return to kendo if she won. After his victory, Rin joined the shogi club to meet its membership quota. Though she claimed minimal shogi knowledge, her childhood training in various arts—including shogi—allowed her to defeat Ayumu effortlessly in their first game. Her competitive spirit then drove her to challenge Urushi, who emerged victorious.

Rin displays a serious, straightforward demeanor, often wearing a determined expression. Her competitiveness contrasts with moments of vulnerability, like blushing when Ayumu compliments her. She strictly adheres to respect hierarchies, addressing others based on perceived strength; after losing to Urushi, she used respectful honorifics, but dropped them for Ayumu after defeating him. Rin is also markedly gluttonous, her food enthusiasm visibly distracting her during shogi matches.

Her romantic feelings for Ayumu deepened over time. After overhearing hints of mutual interest between Ayumu and Urushi, Rin confronted Ayumu about his reluctance to confess. Learning he aimed to confess only after defeating Urushi without handicaps, she channeled her rivalry into coaching him. Her training contributed to his victory against Urushi using a four-piece handicap. Though disappointed he didn’t confess afterward, she respected his resolve and continued supporting him while accepting her unrequited feelings.

Physically, Rin has short black hair, black eyes, and a beautiful face and figure. She typically wears her school’s sailor uniform with black bike shorts underneath. Her surname, Kagawa, connects to shogi’s lance piece, which she favors in gameplay. Her given name, Rin (凛), embodies dignity and severity, reflecting her personality traits.

In club activities, Rin helped her team reach a tournament’s top 16. Her journey shows a shift from pure competitiveness to valuing teamwork and supporting others’ goals, all while navigating her emotional growth.
