Description
Gakushuu is a student at Nanyo Academy and one of the four strongest fighters known as the Big Four. He has a large, muscular build, spiky black hair, and wears the standard school uniform of a light brown vest, button-up shirt, and black pants.
He enjoys fighting and possesses a strong sense of integrity, exemplified when he defends a female customer from harassment at his part-time job by physically confronting the male harasser.
In the manga's Introductory Arc, Gakushuu challenges Hakufu Sonsaku to a fight. He initially throws her against a wall but is later brought to his knees by a latent muscle relaxant technique she employed. He is then quickly defeated and knocked unconscious by Shimei Ryomou using a full moon choke hold.
During The Big Four Arc, he confronts Genpou Saji after Saji defeats Koukin Shuuyu, warning him that overconfidence will be his downfall and accusing him of involvement in behind-the-scenes schemes. Gakushuu also visits Koukin in the hospital to update him on Hakufu's situation.
In the Hakufu's Broken Spirit Arc, Gakushuu meets Saji on a rooftop. After Saji fails to speak with Ryomou, Gakushuu questions how an E-ranked fighter could defeat Shimei, dismissing Saji's theory of possession as mere luck.
In the anime, his story follows a similar path. He fights Hakufu and is initially unaffected by her kick, only to later realize it caused severe internal damage. He is then decisively beaten by Shimei Ryomou, sustaining heavy damage to his arms. Gakushuu later informs Koukin and Hakufu that they must enter the great fighters tournament. During his first tournament match, he is quickly defeated by an opponent using dirty tricks. He follows Kouha Kannei to the boiler room, suspecting a meeting with Enjutsu, but is knocked out by Saji. He awakens restrained alongside Koukin as Saji reveals his plans and manipulation of Kannei. Still chained, Gakushuu is taken to a cliff where he witnesses Hakufu become possessed and later helps save Saji from suicide.
In the sequel series *Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny*, Gakushuu appears during an attack on Nanyo Academy by Kakouen. He successfully holds her off and ends the assault after deducing she was searching for Ryomou, who was no longer present. He attends a Big Four meeting where Hakufu is revealed as the conqueror from the west and listens as Saji explains that Seito Academy was framed by Kyosho Academy for Houkou Kakuka's death. Gakushuu participates in the Battle of Red Cliffs, fighting Koumei Jokou from Kyosho Academy. After an even start, he overpowers Jokou by slamming him against a steel girder to win the match.
In a later episode, he is shown working a part-time job where he faces termination for beating up a male customer who was harassing a female customer.
There is no concrete information regarding his appearance or development in *Shin Ikki Tousen* or other later OVA series such as *Western Wolves*.
