Description
Akira Hojo is a young Japanese man of slender build and average height, with striking good looks and a commanding presence. He is one of the two protagonists of the story, driven by a dark and traumatic past: as a child, he survived the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia alongside his childhood friend Chiaki Asami. Disillusioned with the peaceful but stagnant state of Japan they returned to, the two made a pact to reshape their homeland into a sanctuary. A game of rock-paper-scissors decided their paths, leading Hojo to drop out of high school and join the yakuza while Asami entered politics. Hojo’s defining traits are his extraordinary charisma, unshakeable calm, and tactical intelligence. He is a master of language and psychology, able to read people with precision and turn even hardened enemies into loyal allies. Despite his ruthless pragmatism, he is driven by a genuine desire to reform Japan for its people. Beginning as a minor mob boss, he rises with breathtaking speed to become the Don of the Sagara Alliance, uniting rival syndicates under his command and eventually running for the Diet. His key relationships include an unbreakable bond with Asami, a complex romantic dynamic with Tokyo deputy police chief Kyoko Ishihara, and a strong loyalty with his enforcer Tokai. His primary antagonist in the underworld is the powerful politician Norimoto Isaoka. Hojo’s true weapons are his intelligence, charisma, and psychological fortitude, allowing him to outmaneuver opponents and inspire fierce loyalty. The story ends on a bittersweet note as he achieves his goal of creating a sanctuary, but at great personal cost.
