In the year 2050, technology has advanced to the point where the real and virtual worlds merge through a system called Meta Reality, or MR. People use their senses to interact with this digital layer seamlessly. High school student Taiki suffers from a congenital MR bug that prevents him from properly displaying MR, making him prone to trouble and unable to experience the world the way others do. One day, he is saved from an attack by Lily, a super-high artificial intelligence girl who exists only as a fully MR being with no physical body. Lily, a Robotica—a machine designed in the likeness of humans to serve and bring happiness—lost much of her power after attempting an MR Connect with Taiki due to his bug. She decides to stay with Taiki while seeking a way to restore her strength. The two encounter Kiramon, monstrous MR entities that were once human, and form a partnership to defeat them. Taiki’s childhood friend Kurumi, a bright and popular girl who had drifted apart from him, joins them after her MR pet becomes infected and turns into a Kiramon.
