Description
A group of six childhood friends in the small Japanese town of Chichibu drift apart after their close companion, Meiko Honma, dies in a tragic accident. Several years later, the de facto leader of the group, Jinta Yadomi, has become a withdrawn high school recluse. One summer day, he is visited by the ghost of Meiko, who still appears as the same cheerful, white-haired girl she was at the time of her death. Only Jinta can see her, and she tells him that she needs him to grant a forgotten wish so she can move on. Unsure if her appearance is real or a delusion, Jinta reluctantly agrees to help her. To fulfill the wish, he must reunite their fractured circle of friends, each of whom has been carrying guilt, grief, and unresolved feelings for years. The group includes Naruko Anjo, who struggles with her insecurities and lingering affection for Jinta; Atsumu Matsuyuki, a handsome but bitter student who remains obsessed with Meiko’s memory; Chiriko Tsurumi, a quiet and sharp-witted girl who secretly observes Atsumu’s pain; and Tetsudo Hisakawa, now a carefree traveler who seems to have moved on but harbors his own guilt. As Jinta draws them back together, old tensions and buried secrets resurface. They recreate their childhood hideout and attempt to decipher Meiko’s wish, leading to painful confrontations about the day she died and their own unspoken regrets. The narrative arc follows each character’s journey from denial and blame toward acceptance and forgiveness, culminating in a final, emotional reunion where they must decide whether to let go of the past and say a proper goodbye.
