An ace pitcher in junior high, Hiro Kunimi sees his dreams of reaching the national Koshien tournament shatter when a doctor diagnoses him with a glass elbow, a career-ending injury. Determined to leave baseball behind, he enrolls at Senkawa High School, a school with no baseball team, and joins the soccer club. His best friend and former catcher, Atsushi Noda, who received a similar false diagnosis for his back, also attends Senkawa, suppressing his own love for the sport. Meanwhile, their rival and friend, the powerful slugger Hideo Tachibana, advances to the baseball powerhouse Meiwa Daiichi High School, accompanied by Hikari Amamiya, Hiro’s childhood friend and now Hideo’s girlfriend.

Hiro’s carefully constructed distance from baseball crumbles when he encounters Haruka Koga, the earnest yet clumsy manager of Senkawa’s unofficial baseball enthusiast club. Desperate to give her misfit team a final game, Haruka arranges a match against the soccer club. Unable to tolerate the amateurish play any longer, Hiro abandons the soccer team mid-game, takes the mound, and, with Noda as his catcher, reveals his extraordinary talent. Though they lose, their performance reignites their passion. When they discover the doctor who diagnosed them was a fraud, Hiro and Noda face a choice: transfer to a powerhouse school or stay and build a team from nothing. They choose to stay, determined to turn Haruka’s ragtag club into a legitimate team capable of reaching Koshien.

The newly formed Senkawa baseball team faces immediate challenges, from a skeptical school principal to a lack of skilled players. Their first major test comes against Hideo’s powerful Meiwa Daiichi team, a clash that solidifies their rivalry. As Hiro focuses on perfecting his pitching, a complicated love quadrangle develops.
