Description
Once known as a legendary enhancement spellcaster, Douglas has fallen far from his days of glory. After being kicked out of the hero party, he developed a strange condition or curse that reduces his maximum health whenever he activates his skills, eventually leading to his adventurer's license being revoked. Now a wandering vagabond viewed as little more than a weak old man, he travels the countryside doing odd jobs, his powerful abilities locked away due to the fatal risk of using them.
While wandering aimlessly, Douglas encounters a young girl named Rabi in the middle of a forest. Abandoned and cursed herself, she has no family or home to return to. Despite his circumstances, Douglas feels a strong moral compulsion to help those in need. He takes Rabi under his wing, and the two begin traveling together, forming an unlikely father-daughter bond.
Through a fortunate turn of events, Douglas discovers a way to remove his curse, allowing him to access his overpowered enhancement magic once again. However, rather than seeking revenge on those who cast him out or returning to the adventurer's guild, he chooses a quieter path focusing on protecting and raising Rabi while helping people they meet on their journey.
The story follows Douglas and Rabi as they travel from town to town, including locations such as McFadden, Addington, Floria, Milton, and Balzac. In each place, they encounter people with their own struggles and tragic pasts, with Douglas using his restored abilities to resolve conflicts while Rabi provides emotional support and companionship. The narrative gradually unfolds deeper plot threads involving Douglas's past with the hero Alan, who was involved in his downfall, as well as dangerous circumstances from Rabi's own history that put her in jeopardy, requiring Douglas to protect her and eliminate the source of the threat.
As their adventures continue, Douglas's exploits begin appearing in newspapers. Unlike his younger self who craved adulation, the older and humbled Douglas now finds public attention uncomfortable and often flees from it. He struggles with self-doubt regarding his ability to be a proper parental figure for Rabi, but remains committed to improving himself and ensuring her happiness. The series balances wholesome father-daughter moments with action and drama as Douglas confronts lingering issues from his past while building a new, simpler life focused on the family he has found.
