Description
Three hundred years after the Great Witch Wars, the legendary witch Seraphina, feared as the Calamity of the Eternal Night, is executed by the combined forces of five kingdoms. In her final moment, she weaves a forbidden reincarnation spell as a gamble. She awakens as Lilia Serendel, the twelve-year-old illegitimate daughter of the Serendel royal family, a kingdom that once led the charge against her. Lilia is the kingdom’s shame: locked in a damp cellar, fed scraps, and regularly beaten by her legitimate half-sister, Princess Elodie, while the indifferent king looks away. The only kindness she receives is from a mute servant boy, Ash.

The setting is the continent of Auldrant, still recovering from the scars of magic warfare. Magic now is a regulated, watered-down discipline taught only to nobles, and witches are mythologized as pure evil. Seraphina’s original grimoires and artifacts are sealed in royal vaults or lost. Lilia’s new body possesses a rare, stunted magic core—considered useless—but Seraphina’s soul carries millennial knowledge of high magic. She realizes that her reincarnation was not random: the Serendel bloodline carries a curse she herself designed as a failsafe, linking her soul to the throne. If she dies again, the curse will annihilate the kingdom.

The first arc, Ashes of the Cellar, focuses on Lilia secretly re-learning magic with Ash’s help, using everyday objects to cast forgotten spells. She fends off a poisoning attempt by Elodie and reveals just enough power to terrify the court mage, forcing the king to move her to a proper room—not out of kindness but fear.

In the second arc, The Silent Blade and the Witch’s Heart, Ash is revealed to be a foreign prince from a conquered nation, hiding and waiting to assassinate the Serendel royal family. He discovers Lilia’s identity as the legendary witch when she accidentally heals a fatal wound of his using an ancient rite. Bound by a magical oath of secrecy, he becomes her reluctant protector. Their relationship shifts from mutual suspicion to a fragile alliance.

The third arc, The Queen’s Gambit, sees Lilia turning the court’s oppression into a weapon. She manipulates Elodie into a magical duel that publicly exposes the princess’s own cruelty, forcing the king to acknowledge Lilia as a legitimate heir. Meanwhile, a neighboring kingdom—the same one that executed Seraphina—learns of a powerful witch’s resurgence and sends inquisitors to purge her.

The fourth arc, Calamity Reborn, deconstructs the idea of revenge. Lilia has the power to burn the kingdom that destroyed her past life, but she witnesses how the common people have suffered under the very anti-witch laws she inadvertently caused three centuries ago. She instead chooses to dismantle the oppressive system from within, rewriting the kingdom’s magical constitution. The final conflict is not a battle but a trial where she forces the corrupt noble houses to confess to their ancestors’ crimes against witches, using magic to compel truth.

The story ends with Lilia crowned queen, but she refuses to rule alone. She establishes a council of commoner mages and reformed nobles, with Ash as her diplomatic envoy. The final scene shows her visiting the cellar where she once starved, now converted into a public school for orphaned magic users. She whispers to Seraphina’s memory: “They feared you because you stood alone. I will be feared because I am never alone.” The epilogue hints that the reincarnation spell had a hidden cost—her past life’s memories are slowly fading, but she decides to let them go.
