Description
Misha is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives deep in the forest with her mother Leya, learning to craft medicine from nature’s bounty. They are among the secluded People of the Forest, a tribe whose remarkable skills as apothecaries are known across the world, though Leya has long been estranged from her people. The term witch is sometimes used as an insult toward them, but Misha possesses no traditional magic, only an encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and healing passed down by her mother. Their quiet life is shattered when Misha’s father, the nobleman Duke Deenoark de Lindberg, suffers a near-fatal sword wound in battle. Leaving their woodland home behind, mother and daughter rush to the duke’s estate to save his life.

Though Leya succeeds in stabilizing Deenoark, their presence at the ducal seat places them in grave danger due to the duke’s wife, who had severely injured Leya years earlier. Tragedy soon strikes, and Misha finds herself thrust into a world of political intrigue she never knew existed, forced to confront the grim truth that all her theoretical knowledge is useless without practical experience. Accompanied by the loyal knight Geord, Misha resolves to leave her former life behind and journey to the distant Redford Kingdom, where she has been sent to study. What begins as a directed mission evolves into an episodic, leisurely travelogue as her escorts take their time crossing the countryside.

As she travels, Misha’s insatiable curiosity constantly draws her into peculiar local events. She stumbles upon the attempted murder of a merchant’s family, adopts an injured albino wolf puppy she names Ren, and investigates a local legend of a Dragon God. In each encounter, she relies on her herbal knowledge and medical training, though hints emerge that she may possess a subtle, mysterious ability to calm and heal others through her very presence. The world remains largely low in overt magic, but genuine supernatural phenomena, such as a talking blue stone, occasionally surface. Throughout her wanderings, Misha grapples with the grief of losing her mother, processing her sorrow while gradually learning to live on and help those she meets. Her ultimate destination is the Redford Kingdom, but the journey itself becomes the heart of her story as she discovers that her world is expanding far beyond the forest she once called home. Later narrative arcs see Misha confronting challenges such as a plague that she cannot solve alone, forcing her to come to terms with her own limitations as a healer.
