A high school student named Haruo lives in Biei, a rural town in Hokkaido. As a younger child, he struggled to express his emotions until he discovered heavy metal music, which set him free. Since then, he has dedicated himself to honing his skills as a guitarist, but he now faces a crucial decision about the next stage of his life. His dream of forming a band and eventually performing at the Tokyo Dome seems impossible to achieve in his isolated hometown, where none of his peers even know what metal is. His only supporter is an elderly monk, a former drummer for a visual kei band who never achieved major success himself.

After a series of events, Haruo finds himself alone on a stage with only his guitar, standing as the only line of defense between the audience at a festival and a wild bear. He attempts to subdue the animal by playing heavy metal, starting with The Trooper by Iron Maiden. When that proves insufficient, he escalates to Mouth for War by Pantera, and finally manages to overwhelm the bear by playing Bleed by Meshuggah. The incident makes him a local hero covered by the press. With his familys support secured, Haruo finally departs for Tokyo to chase his dream. True to the title, he is expected to settle in the western part of the metropolis and recruit other members to form his band, the West Tokyo Metal Bros.
