Description
Ozu Hayato, a high school boy who plays bass guitar, moves to the small, remote island of Ukujima. He transfers to the local high school, which is so small that it has only four other students, a situation reflecting declining birth rates and the migration of young people to Japan's cities. The story, a shounen manga with themes of music and school life, follows Hayato as he navigates this drastically new environment and attempts to adjust to island life.

The narrative focuses on Hayato’s internal struggles as much as his external circumstances. While likable, he is a deeply flawed protagonist whose insecurities often get the best of him. He has a tendency to push others away, not out of malice, but because he lacks the confidence to be honest or take the emotional risks needed to form genuine connections. Despite these flaws, he does make efforts to step outside his comfort zone and try new things, creating a relatable coming-of-age arc about overcoming personal barriers.

As the curtain rises on this remote island, the core conflict emerges from the contrast between the simplicity of the setting and the complexity of Hayato's heart. The manga depicts his interactions with the small student body as he tries to find his place. The uncomplicated rock and roll he carries within him becomes a central element in this tale of youthful band life, suggesting that music will be the vehicle through which he and his new peers learn to connect.
