Description
In the distant future, humanity discovered a powerful energy source known as Black Aether, which allowed for unprecedented interstellar expansion. However, the extraction of this resource from black holes awakened primordial monsters called the Krakens, who nearly decimated the entire human race. One thousand years later, the surviving remnants of humanity live under the strict rule of the Church of the Resurrection, known as Ecclesia, which now worships the Krakens as gods. The Church holds a monopoly on the remaining Black Aether, using it to fuel the powers of its elite warriors known as Atomancians.
Despite the official ban on black hole mining, certain outlaws known as Scavengers continue to risk their lives for the precious few drops of Black Aether. The story follows Oriale, a skilled operative and Atomancian of the Church who goes by the alias Eden. She infiltrates the crew of the scavenger ship Pulsar, posing as an innocent chef. The Pulsar is led by Captain Paze and has been hired by the Martian pirate group Red Sand to perform a dangerous and illegal mining operation near a black hole.
The mission goes catastrophically wrong when the Pulsar attracts the attention of a Kraken. Forced to save the ship from destruction, Oriale reveals her true identity and her powers. The crew soon discovers that their mission is entangled in a much larger conspiracy involving revolution, religious intrigue, and a mysterious benefactor who set the events in motion. The narrative arc follows Oriale as she navigates the conflicting loyalties between her duty to the oppressive Church and the pragmatic, rough-edged crew of the Pulsar, all while confronting the cosmic horror of the Krakens. The story blends elements of space opera with lovecraftian horror and political suspense, exploring themes of survival, the corrupting nature of power, and the blurred line between science and faith.
