Description
A robotic cat named Doraemon is sent back in time from the 22nd century to the present day by a young boy named Sewashi, who is the descendant of a hapless schoolboy named Nobita Nobi. Sewashi’s family is plagued by poverty due to the debts Nobita will accumulate in his life, so Sewashi sends the robot to care for his ancestor and change the future for the better. Doraemon is a blue, earless, cat-like robot who possesses a four-dimensional pocket on his belly filled with futuristic gadgets and tools from his own era. These items range from the Bamboo-Copter, a small device that allows flight, to the Anywhere Door, which can open a portal to any location. However, Doraemon is also prone to panic and is deeply fond of the dorayaki, a sweet bean-filled pastry.

Doraemon Plus is a specific collection of short stories that were originally published in various magazines but were not included in the standard 45-volume tankobon edition of the main Doraemon series. The publication of this series began in 2005, several years after the death of the creator, Fujiko F. Fujio. The stories within Doraemon Plus follow the exact same formula, characters, and continuity as the core series, serving as a supplemental archive of lost or overlooked adventures. The settings are identical to the main series, primarily taking place in the quiet, suburban neighborhood of Tokyo where Nobita lives, his messy bedroom which holds the desk drawer that serves as Doraemon's time machine entry point, and the vacant lot where Nobita and his friends often play.

The main characters remain the same as in the original manga. Nobita Nobi is the protagonist, a kind-hearted but lazy, academically poor, and athletically unlucky boy who often relies too heavily on Doraemon’s gadgets. Shizuka Minamoto is Nobita's intelligent and gentle best friend, who also serves as his primary romantic interest and future wife. The conflicts are typically driven by two neighborhood bullies: Takeshi Goda, nicknamed Gian, who is loud, physically strong, and loves to sing terribly, and Suneo Honekawa, a wealthy and cunning boy who often manipulates Gian into doing his bidding.

Because this series collects uncollected chapters, it does not have unique narrative arcs that span multiple volumes. Instead, the narrative arcs are confined to the standard episodic structure of the franchise. A typical story in Doraemon Plus begins with Nobita coming home from school crying about being bullied by Gian or failing an exam. He begs Doraemon for a gadget to solve his immediate problem. Doraemon hesitates but eventually produces a device from the future, such as a pair of shoes that makes the wearer invisible or a camera that creates solid models of whatever it photographs. Nobita uses the gadget to get revenge on his bullies or to impress Shizuka, but he inevitably misuses the item’s power. He may make himself invisible to peek at Shizuka bathing or use the gadget to cheat on a test. The story concludes with the gadget backfiring spectacularly, leading to Nobita being punished, the gadget being destroyed, or the bullies receiving their own comeuppance, often reinforcing a moral about hard work and honesty. These stories fill in the gaps of the larger Doraemon timeline, offering new glimpses into the daily chaos of Nobita’s childhood without advancing the long-term plot where Nobita eventually marries Shizuka and parts with Doraemon.
