Description
A boy named Louis Miller ekes out a harsh existence working in a remote village when he comes across an elementary book on magecraft. He memorizes its contents in a single week, an achievement that so impresses a professor from the famed Minervas Mage Training Institution that Louis is offered a scholarship to attend. He arrives at the academy as a rough and rowdy scholarship student from a poor background, immediately standing out among his noble peers. Louis is treated as a problem child and feared for the aggressive way he dominates his opponents in magic battles, often preferring to fight dirty with physical attacks rather than relying solely on magical dueling.
The story follows Louis journey through the halls of this prestigious magic university, depicting his growth into the man who will one day earn the title of Sage and become known as the Barrier Mage. Despite his violent thuggish reputation, Louis finds teachers who earn his respect and friends he can rely on, including a kind if somewhat stoic girl named Rosalie who becomes his future wife. The narrative explores the notorious deeds of his youth, including his heavy northern accent which he eventually abandons, and the various rivalries he develops with classmates who underestimate him. The prequel concludes by connecting directly to the beginning of the main Silent Witch series, showing how the troublesome prodigy evolved into the formidable mage who would one day recruit Monica Everett for a secret royal mission.
