Description
In the kingdom of Avista, twelve elite sorcerers known as the Paladins serve as the realm's protectors. The story centers on Junk, the son of one of these legendary figures, Jean Whattear, the incarnation of the sun. Overwhelmed by the pressure of living up to his father's legacy, Junk rebels against his predetermined destiny on the day of the ceremony meant to officially make him a sorcerer. However, a tragic event forces him to reverse his decision, prompting him to become an apprentice mage and join the Paladin council to avenge his father.

The narrative follows Junk as he enrolls at the Grand Bell Academy, where young sorcerers are trained and ranked through a series of enigmatic and dangerous trials. The magic system in Avista is unique, centered on the Magicae Anima, a magical spirit residing within each person. During a ceremony, a sorcerer makes a powerful wish that manifests their Magicae Anima as a wand, which they use for the rest of their life. Junk stands out because he becomes a sorcerer without a wand, marking him as an anomaly and an underachiever in the eyes of others.

As Junk progresses, he is invited to the palace by the young prince, Kamiya Lastaria. This invitation is a trap; the prince, whose father was a wandless king who disgraced the royal family, transfers his resentment onto Junk, making them bitter rivals. In another major arc, Junk and his friend Mia venture into the Sylvestre Ruins to find the Flower of Clarisse, a catalyst for metamorphosis. They are ambushed by bandits, including a wind-wielding sorcerer named Nistas, and are saved by their friend Iris, who must tap into her deepest reserves to protect them.

The story expands to explore the social structure of Avista. Junk discovers a tavern where other wandless people gather, revealing a population that lives without magic and faces contempt from certain members of the magical order. This simmering resentment boils over with the emergence of Vandalika, a mysterious organization of wandless sorcerers who launch coordinated attacks on the capital city and the academy, forcing a full deployment of both students and Paladins to fight these overwhelmingly powerful enemies. The manga series concluded after a long run, totaling 35 volumes.
