Description
"Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz" is a manga adaptation of the OVA series of the same name, serving as a sequel to the original "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" anime. Set in the year After Colony 196, the story takes place after the events of the Eve Wars, where the Gundam pilots—Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei—have successfully dismantled the oppressive rule of the United Earth Sphere Alliance and OZ. The world is now under the governance of the Preventers, an organization dedicated to maintaining peace.
The narrative begins with the Gundam pilots attempting to live normal lives, having sent their mobile suits into the sun to symbolize the end of war. However, peace is short-lived as a faction of colonists led by Mariemaia Khushrenada, the daughter of the late OZ leader Treize Khushrenada, stages a coup. Mariemaia, manipulated by her father’s former subordinates, seeks to establish a new world order by taking control of Earth’s governments and military forces. The Gundam pilots are forced to reclaim their mobile suits, which have been stolen and reprogrammed by Mariemaia’s forces, to stop her from plunging the world back into chaos.
Heero Yuy, the protagonist, plays a central role in confronting Mariemaia and her ideals, grappling with the moral implications of using violence to achieve peace. Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei each face their own challenges, reflecting on their past actions and the cost of war. The story also delves into the relationship between Heero and Relena Peacecraft, who has become a key political figure advocating for peace. Relena’s unwavering belief in diplomacy contrasts with Heero’s pragmatic approach, creating tension and growth in their dynamic.
The climax centers on a battle in space, where the Gundam pilots confront Mariemaia’s forces and the upgraded mobile suits. The conflict culminates in a decisive confrontation between Heero and Mariemaia, who ultimately realizes the futility of her actions. The story concludes with the Gundam pilots once again retiring their mobile suits, this time entrusting them to the Preventers as a symbol of hope and a reminder of the sacrifices made to achieve peace. The manga explores themes of redemption, the cyclical nature of conflict, and the enduring struggle to balance ideals with reality.
