Manga
Description
In a secluded mountain village, a clan of young kunoichi, known as the Akane Class, live in complete isolation from the outside world, adhering to a strict and absolute rule enforced by their leaders: all men are dangerous, and any contact with them is forbidden. The story centers on Tsubaki, the class's top student and the diligent leader of Team Dog, who is admired by her peers for her skill and unwavering dedication to her training. However, Tsubaki harbors a secret that could jeopardize her standing within the clan. Unlike her comrades, she is intensely curious about men, a fascination she must keep hidden from her teachers and fellow students as she navigates the daily challenges of ninja life. The narrative follows Tsubaki and the other teams of the Akane Class—thirty-six girls divided into groups named after the animals of the Chinese zodiac—as they engage in rigorous training exercises, build friendships, and participate in comedic, slice-of-life scenarios that test their skills and their adherence to the village's rigid traditions. As the class president, Tsubaki balances her responsibilities with her internal struggle, all while upholding the clan's principal law that any transgression with a male is punishable by death.

A second manga presents a darker, more supernatural narrative centered on a different protagonist also named Tsubaki. This Tsubaki is a mysterious girl who lives alone in the mountains and belongs to the Matagi, a tribe tasked with protecting a sacred mountain. Armed with a Murata rifle, she appears before humans whenever they defile the mountain, punishing them for their crimes against nature. Despite her fierce and vengeful role, she is always seen with her eyes brimming with tears. The story unfolds through a series of interconnected vignettes rather than a single linear plot. These episodes explore the cruel and selfish nature of humanity, often blending folklore and horror elements with scenes of graphic violence. In one tale, she confronts children being trained as Matagi by a drunkard, only for them to pay a terrible price. In another, she attempts to help a girl who has fallen from a waterfall find her mother, with tragic results. The narrative also delves into Tsubaki's own background, revealing the pain and sacrifice that define her lonely existence as the mountain's guardian.
