However, Tsubaki harbors a secret that could jeopardize her standing within the clan. Unlike her comrades, she is intensely curious about men, a fascination she must keep hidden from her teachers and fellow students as she navigates the daily challenges of ninja life. The narrative follows Tsubaki and the other teams of the Akane Class—thirty-six girls divided into groups named after the animals of the Chinese zodiac—as they engage in rigorous training exercises, build friendships, and participate in comedic, slice-of-life scenarios that test their skills and their adherence to the village's rigid traditions. Armed with a Murata rifle, she appears before humans whenever they defile the mountain, punishing them for their crimes against nature. Despite her fierce and vengeful role, she is always seen with her eyes brimming with tears. The story unfolds through a series of interconnected vignettes rather than a single linear plot. These episodes explore the cruel and selfish nature of humanity, often blending folklore and horror elements with scenes of graphic violence. In one tale, she confronts children being trained as Matagi by a drunkard, only for them to pay a terrible price. In another, she attempts to help a girl who has fallen from a waterfall find her mother, with tragic results.
